A Life, Folded is hosted by Lainey Cathan, a divorced, Christian woman. A little about Lainey: many years ago, I made the devasting discovery of my husband’s hidden life. Eventually, I chose to leave my decades-long union after trying everything humanly possible to save him and our marriage. Once his mask was removed, my unfaithful addict and covert narcissist husband cruelly and deliberately set out to destroy my heart and soul through. I promised myself if I survived his horrible narcissistic discard behaviors, I would dedicate my life to help others in the same situation. 92: Compassion for the Narcissist?
My therapist asked me a question once that rocked my world: do you think you can ever have compassion for your narcissistic ex-husband? I laughed. But she was serious. This caused me to deeply think about the real life of a narcissist. I may or may not be able to have compassion for the narcissist, but I do know their empty reality never trumps the goodness of the people who loved them and were cruelly hurt and manipulated.

It's difficult being alone, but it is more difficult living with a partner who is not keeping their marital covenants. Who thinks fidelity is an option. Now that I've navigated my divorce from a lying, cheating narcissist, I worry about the one who stays. The one who feels like they have no options. I'm not an advocate of leaving or staying in a relationship, but I feel sorrow for individuals who stay in intolerable situations because they have told themselves that they have no needs. That they are not worthy of honor and peace. You are worthy of love. You deserve love.
