Podcast Overview

This podcast is an outcome of our Women’s Safe Haven sessions which started on the 31st of July 2020. Our online Safe Haven sessions are focused on creating a safe space for people who survived or are experiencing abuse. This platform was created to ensure a safe, compassionate and a non- judgmental environment for survivors to share their experiences surrounded by people offering love, empathy and support. Each week was dedicated to a specific aspect of GBV including rape, intimate partner abuse, as well as the impact of substance abuse. Whilst the Safe Haven webinars continue, the podcast is aimed at reaching out to more people in order to create awareness about gender-based violence, as well as sharing tools and processes to tackle it. We believe that this femicide cannot and should not only become a focus of discussion and action during women’s month. To begin to change the thinking and provide support to survivors of GBV, we need to be actively creating spaces for this to happen. Therefore the podcast aims to give survivors tools to start to transform trauma into wholeness and healing. We will also share information about the signs of abuse – particularly mental and emotional abuse. We will also explore the impact of toxic masculinity and provide some guidance on how we as society can begin to change this. As you step into this sacred space of awareness and healing we hope that you find information and tools that will inspire you to start your own healing journey knowing that you are not alone. We also know that not everyone who listens to our podcast would be a survivor of GBV, and we are hoping that you would share this information with someone that you care about. We as a society can support those that have survived and continuously strive to survive gender-based violence and sexual assault, by being the guiding light, offering support in their healing journeys and in ways to move forward. There is strength in numbers. There is strength in you. Change starts with you.
