Interview with Arleen Tyndall, Author of "The Perfectly Imperfect Family"

Arleen Tydall: Crossing the Bridge Between Pharmacy & Conscious Parenting For over 25 years, Arleen has served as a trauma-informed clinical HIV pharmacist, caring for and educating thousands of patients from marginalized, cross-cultural communities facing discrimination, poverty, homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. Her work included sharing care with Dr. Gabor Maté’s patients in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, where he developed his Compassionate Inquiry principles, and collaborating with a diverse team of nurses, outreach and social workers, and harm reduction experts like Dr. Mark Tyndall. She began to sense a disconnect within herself, striving for perfection at work while struggling as a mother at home. Her self-study of Conscious Parenting evolved into a passion to help mothers heal generational patterns and build connection in their families. Leaving her pharmacy career to train with Dr. Shefali, Oprah’s favourite parenting expert, she now advocates for children as our greatest teachers. During a two-year spiritual awakening in Bali, her mother’s birthplace, she ignited a new Conscious Parenting movement at The Green School and trained in Somatic Alignment to strengthen her mind-body-spirit connection. Today, as a co-author of the #1 international bestseller The Perfectly Imperfect Family, a featured presenter at the Happily Family Online Conference with over 118,000 attendees, and a global speaker, she guides parents on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. Now based in North Vancouver, surrounded by nature, she's building a local and global community through vulnerable storytelling and practical tools, helping mothers see their children as awakeners and create compassionate, emotionally connected families. "Businesses have the power to keep the global temperature from increasing more than .5 celsius, and we need smart, caring people to take the lead and develop initiatives that will keep companies on the right path. I met so many of them while researching for this book! Many of my friends here on this Facebook stream are solo entrepreneurs - but that's ok! I know many of you have friends who work for small/medium-sized companies, so please share this book with them! And hey, I think people in solo businesses can also learn a thing or two about how to bring even more sustainability awareness into their company by reading Green Wisdom! My hope is that other sustainability professionals will use the examples from Green Wisdom and integrate them into their own businesses!" - Niki Pava #greenwisdom (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/greenwisdom?__eep__=6&__cft__%5B0%5D=AZV3hpXwD4xgR8GumFXlKofOhCV7PuonXWUu5BcOpArNxDOcDk3dj6uI7t7vEZvddzmVtDv-GR06myMmClEKk6A-GolieluKJ36JA7BH-BuVH_iSB_34Dwj89ilNGdxZgzsQ1XJi-9fui-J5SzAseW2icoa_edEBe6BZQmD_O1hvrFymDMr8NeQmyRzILAK7D84&__tn__=*NKH-R) #booklaunch (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/booklaunch?__eep__=6&__cft__%5B0%5D=AZV3hpXwD4xgR8GumFXlKofOhCV7PuonXWUu5BcOpArNxDOcDk3dj6uI7t7vEZvddzmVtDv-GR06myMmClEKk6A-GolieluKJ36JA7BH-BuVH_iSB_34Dwj89ilNGdxZgzsQ1XJi-9fui-J5SzAseW2icoa_edEBe6BZQmD_O1hvrFymDMr8NeQmyRzILAK7D84&__tn__=*NKH-R) #paperback (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/paperback?__eep__=6&__cft__%5B0%5D=AZV3hpXwD4xgR8GumFXlKofOhCV7PuonXWUu5BcOpArNxDOcDk3dj6uI7t7vEZvddzmVtDv-GR06myMmClEKk6A-GolieluKJ36JA7BH-BuVH_iSB_34Dwj89ilNGdxZgzsQ1XJi-9fui-J5SzAseW2icoa_edEBe6BZQmD_O1hvrFymDMr8NeQmyRzILAK7D84&__tn__=*NKH-R) #nonfiction (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/nonfiction?__eep__=6&__cft__%5B0%5D=AZV3hpXwD4xgR8GumFXlKofOhCV7PuonXWUu5BcOpArNxDOcDk3dj6uI7t7vEZvddzmVtDv-GR06myMmClEKk6A-GolieluKJ36JA7BH-BuVH_iSB_34Dwj89ilNGdxZgzsQ1XJi-9fui-J5SzAseW2icoa_edEBe6BZQmD_O1hvrFymDMr8NeQmyRzILAK7D84&__tn__=*NKH-R) #sustainability (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/sustainability?__eep__=6&__cft__%5B0%5D=AZV3hpXwD4xgR8GumFXlKofOhCV7PuonXWUu5BcOpArNxDOcDk3dj6uI7t7vEZvddzmVtDv-GR06myMmClEKk6A-GolieluKJ36JA7BH-BuVH_iSB_34Dwj89ilNGdxZgzsQ1XJi-9fui-J5SzAseW2icoa_edEBe6BZQmD_O1hvrFymDMr8NeQmyRzILAK7D84&__tn__=*NKH-R) #amazon (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/amazon?__eep__=6&__cft__%5B0%5D=AZV3hpXwD4xgR8GumFXlKofOhCV7PuonXWUu5BcOpArNxDOcDk3dj6uI7t7vEZvddzmVtDv-GR06myMmClEKk6A-GolieluKJ36JA7BH-BuVH_iSB_34Dwj89ilNGdxZgzsQ1XJi-9fui-J5SzAseW2icoa_edEBe6BZQmD_O1hvrFymDMr8NeQmyRzILAK7D84&__tn__=*NKH-R) Amazon.com (https://amazon.com/) ***************************************************** Here's the link to purchase: https://amzn.to/2zPC2PZ (https://amzn.to/2zPC2PZ?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2Tcw1WNtvSo89ccbIj8ROhKg9SFNHDxei1Hqca8dTIrJI4puAHzzdzSH8_aem_Nzi6xBziTcNTu_Mx0I2YHA)

Interview with Bill Dickinson of the Smith Society at UC Santa Cruz

When Bill Dickinson founded the Page and Eloise Smith Scholastic Society in 1999, it was the first of its kind in the UC system—a program offering a pathway to admission to UC Santa Cruz for foster youths and other independent students such as wards of the court, homeless youth, and orphans; a supportive community after they arrive; and an ongoing network of belonging upon graduation. Dickinson recalls that he started the program as a living memorial to Page Smith, the historian and founding Cowell College provost, and his artist wife, Eloise. The Smiths had been instrumental in Dickinson's growth as a young adult. Having grown up in an orphanage and foster homes, going on his own when he was 16, Dickinson was one of the first students to arrive on the new UC Santa Cruz campus in 1965. "The Smiths, together with the caring, competent, committed community they gathered, helped me make my way forward to an adult life of which I feel pretty proud," said Dickinson. "That is what we try to offer our students." The Smith Renaissance Society, as it's now known, is remarkably successful—the graduation rate of alumni, called Smith Collegiate Fellows, is higher than the UC and UC Santa Cruz average.
