How Breathwork Resets Your Nervous System: Wednesday Time Out #1 | Doug & Angela | Absolutely Focused Radio | AFR Season 5 Bonus #17
How does breathwork reset your nervous system? Sometimes we all need a time out, just to breathe.
Welcome to Wednesday Time Out, a 7-week Breathwork Journey with Doug and Angela. Every Wednesday, we stop the noise, take a breath together, and build something steady underneath us.
In Episode 1, The Breath of Foundation, we start with why stress keeps your body stuck in fight-or-flight, and why slow, deliberate breathing tells your nervous system it's safe to settle. You'll hear about the 4-4-4-4 box breathing baseline, then take a time out with us for three slow belly breaths: in for 4, out for 6.
We pair the breath with two anchors of truth, Psalm 46:10 and Matthew 7:24, the house built on the rock. When the body gets still, the foundation has somewhere to hold.
This week's practice: three breaths, once a day. Before you check your phone, in the car, or before a hard conversation. Just three.
Take your time out. Then come back next Wednesday for Episode 2.
If you ever feel lightheaded, return to normal breathing. This practice should always feel calm, never forced.

The War That Wasn't Yours | Doug & Angela | Absolutely Focused Radio | AFR Season 5 Episode 7
Sometimes we spend years fighting battles we never started.
Did you end the cycle, or did you just inherit a different role?
It's Monday afternoon. Pull up a chair. In this special Season 5 conversation, Doug and Angela explore what happens when we inherit family conflicts, old resentments, relationship patterns, and stories that shaped how we see ourselves and the people around us.
What happens when the past becomes the lens through which we see every new person?
What happens when someone who was once caught in the middle becomes the person putting someone else in the middle?
In this conversation:
- Sobriety and judgment
- Boundaries versus superiority
- Accountability and moving goalposts
- Inherited narratives
- Public image versus private character
- Protecting yourself versus punishing someone else for what happened in your past
You can remember what happened without assuming it will happen again.
You can recognize a pattern without forcing someone into it.
You can protect your recovery without losing your humanity.
And you can acknowledge what happened to you without automatically passing it forward.
Sometimes the war wasn't yours. Sometimes the story wasn't yours. And sometimes the thing you need to let go of isn't another person. It's the role you were given long ago: the peacemaker, the fixer, the strong one, the caretaker, the one who got blamed, the golden child.
You are not required to carry the story.™
Don't just ask whether you escaped the cycle. Ask whether you stopped it from continuing through you.
💭 One question to carry with you:
What role were you handed long ago that you're ready to set down?
Daniel and the Sobriety Crew will be back on the next episode.

Who's Really Leading Change? | Doug & Angela | Absolutely Focused Radio | Review S3 Ep. 24 | AFR Season 5 Bonus #16
It's Sunday evening, and the week is about to begin. Doug and Angela revisit Season 3, Episode 24 and talk honestly about the people who quietly hold things together: the watchers, the workers, and the ones willing to wake up.
Leadership versus control. Emotional labor and the work no one sees. Being needed versus being valued. When helping becomes exhausting. And what happens when you stop believing you'll be heard.
Pull up a chair and become the third person at the table.
