My name is Leif Kaner-Lidström, I’m a pianist and composer and in my spare time I love to go to the cinema.
Alongside my career as a performing musician, another dream of mine has been to write film music, so, on this show I’ll be sharing thoughts on some of the films I loved watching this month and following each entry, I’ll perform an improvisation to abstractly accompany my impression of the film.

MY FATHER'S SHADOW and CALM WITH HORSES

This week of cinema-going sees Leif Kaner-Lidström delve into the films My Father's Shadow by Akinola Davis Jr., the Bafta winner for Outstanding Debut for this mesmerising and profound story of a father's relationship with his sons to whom he is something of a stranger set against the backdrop of political tumult in Lagos, and Calm With Horses by Nick Rowland, a stark portrait of life in rural Ireland with stellar performances from Cosmo Jarvis and Barry Keoghan.

This week of cinema-going sees Leif Kaner-Lidström delve into the films Train Dreams by Clint Bentley, a beautiful and understated ballad of life on the railroads at the turn of the century in Washington state. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Drago by Ang Lee, perhaps the greatest martial arts film of all time and the masterpiece of this great and diverse director.
