Welcome to Growing Up With Movies, a nostalgic and entertaining show where hosts Tommy James, Mr. A-Town Ryan, and Mista Malave dive into the movies that shaped our childhoods and beyond. Each week, the hosts spin the wheel of time to land on a random year from 1980 to the present, choosing one movie from that year. Once a month, they shake things up with Back To Thy Classic, a special episode dedicated to iconic films that predate 1980.
Regular segments include:
What'cha Watching?!: A quick chat about recent watches.
Sell Us That Movie!: A fun D20 roll determines how many words each host gets to pitch a movie, followed by highlights from the selected year.
What’s Their Cocktail?: The hosts craft a cocktail inspired by a character from the movie.
Tommy James Movie Therapist: A comedic "therapy session" tied to the film’s themes.
The Malave Remix: A breakdown of the film’s music.
Mr. A-Town’s Teachable Lessons: Life lessons drawn from the movie.
Money For Nothin’: A trivia challenge with a chance to win $100.
Growing Up With Movies blends nostalgia, humor, and fresh takes, making it a must-listen for movie buffs of all generations!

Donnie Darko (2001)
This week on Growing Up With Movies, we're venturing into the mind-bending, rabbit-filled maze of Donnie Darko. Is it a cult classic or just a weird trip through time, teen angst, and creepy bunnies? Mr. A-Town, our resident time travel/multiverse fan, shares his take, while Tommy James unpacks the film after multiple rewatches. Meanwhile, Mista Malave steps into Frank The Bunny’s furry shoes and guides us through this Mad World of a movie.
Stick around for Movie Therapy, and get your prescriptions filled, The Malave Remix, a deep dive into the eerie soundtrack that makes this film's world feel extra unsettling, and Mr. A-Town’s Teachable Lessons – because even in a world of time loops and crazy rabbits, there's some wisdom (and maybe a little madness). Plus, find out what cocktail best represents Frank—and Jim Cunningham (uh oh, watch out for that guy).
And as if that weren’t enough, will someone FINALLY win Money For Nothin’? The stakes have never been higher. Tune in to find out!

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
It’s time to get Muppetational! The holidays are here, and so is another Growing Up With Movies Holiday Edition! This week, The Movie Guy Bay Bay! picked a true classic: the 1992 musical The Muppet Christmas Carol, starring the one and only Michael Caine as Scrooge and Kermit the Frog as… well, Kermit the Frog in a cute little scarf.
We dive into what makes Muppet adaptations so magical (spoiler: it’s Gonzo killing it as Charles Dickens with Rizzo as his chaotic sidekick) and debate if we’d swap out the Muppets cast as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come (Not Statler and Waldorf tho...they’re perfect).
Stick around for a Movie Therapy write-in, a Muppet-inspired Malave Remix, and Mr. A-Town’s wisdom-packed Teachable Lessons. Oh, and the eternal question: will anyone finally win Money for Nothin’?
