A podcast for anyone tired of learning psychology from thirty second videos.
Here we take the topics trending on social media, triggers, attachment styles, self-diagnosis, narcissism, validation, and look at what the actual science says about each of them. No sensationalism, no oversimplifying, and no pretending a label explains everything you feel.
Hosted by psychotherapist Maria Maddalon, a specialist in cognitive behavioral therapy, each episode brings together solid research and everyday examples, helping you understand your own mind beyond what fits in a caption.

ADHD or a TikTok Label? Why Recognising Symptoms Isn't a Diagnosis
Lost your keys, got distracted halfway through a task, procrastinated a bit more than usual. Lately, a lot of people jump straight to one conclusion: ADHD.
In this episode, Maria looks at what research has found about ADHD content on TikTok, where more than half of the videos analysed contained misleading information, and at the rise of self-diagnosis among Gen Z and Gen Alpha. She explains what a real ADHD diagnosis involves, why similar symptoms can come from anxiety, poor sleep, burnout or stress, and how adopting a label on your own can delay the right help.
With a hypothetical example and a grounding in cognitive behavioral therapy, the episode shows the difference between a trait and a disorder, and invites you to treat a video that resonates as the start of an investigation, not the end of one.

Gaslighting: What It Really Means
A disagreement about where to go for dinner. A different memory of an anniversary date. Lately, all of it gets called gaslighting.
In this episode, Maria goes back to where the term comes from, the 1938 play Gas Light, and to what it actually describes: a repeated pattern of making someone doubt their own perception, memory or sanity. She looks at why the word was named word of the year in 2022, what research says about the confusion between gaslighting and ordinary disagreement, and why stretching the term makes it harder for people who are really living through this kind of abuse to be taken seriously.
With a hypothetical example and a grounding in cognitive behavioral therapy, the episode shows how mapping specific episodes helps tell a real pattern apart from a one-off moment, and helps people rebuild trust in their own perception.

Therapy Speak: Beyond the Labels
Trigger, trauma, invalidation. You've probably used one of these words this week, but do you actually know what they mean?
In this episode we dig into the research behind what's known as therapy speak, the clinical language that has escaped the therapy room and turned into everyday vocabulary on social media. We look at what recent studies have found about the difference between learning a word and understanding the concept behind it, and why mixing the two up can delay your own search for real help.
With practical examples and a grounding in cognitive behavioral therapy, this episode invites you to go beyond the label and understand what's actually behind what you feel.
