Title: The Napoleonic Wars Author: Alexander Mikaberidze Narrator: Steven Crossley Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 35 hours 11 minutes Release date: November 24, 2020 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 4 of Total 46 Ratings of Narrator: 4.33 of Total 9 Genres: Military Publisher's Summary: In this compelling, hugely ambitious, and comprehensive work, Alexander Mikaberidze offers a full accounting of the wars that began during theRevolutionary Period in France and lasted at least until Napoleon’s defeat in 1815. Initially defensive, under Napoleon these wars became a means of empirebuilding on a global scale. Against the backdrop of war in Europe, European powers sought hegemony in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. In terms of their effects, direct and indirect, the Napoleonic Wars were the most transformational world events between the Reformation and the First World War, and their repercussions endure to this day. Mikaberidze’s book reveals the truly massive and cataclysmic scale of the Napoleonic Wars, showing how they encompassed political, cultural, diplomatic, and military events in almost every corner of the world. Moving region by region, it illuminates how geopolitical decision-making played out as these wars raged. InEgypt the Napoleonic Wars enabled the rise of Mehmed Ali and the emergence of a powerful state; in North America, the wars led directly to the Louisiana Purchaseand the War of 1812, setting the stage for the rapid expansion of the United States and its growing influence; in South America, they inspired nationalliberation movements that ultimately ended Spanish colonial control. Everywhere, alliances shifted, monarchies were created and toppled, governments rose and fell, boundaries were drawn, redrawn, and transgressed. The Napoleonic Wars left no part of the globe untouched. Deeply researched, authoritative, and skillfully narrated, The Napoleonic Wars is both a signal achievement and a monumental contribution to our understanding of a crucial period in world history.

Title: The Miracle Typist: The powerful true story of one soldier's long journey home Author: Leon Silver Narrator: Robbie Mcgregor Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 10 hours 8 minutes Release date: September 2, 2020 Genres: Military Publisher's Summary: In the tradition of THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ, a heartbreaking true story of love, loss and survival against all odds during the Second World war. Conscripted into the Polish army as Hitler’s forces draw closer, Jewish soldier Tolek Klings vows to return to his wife, Klara, and son, Juliusz. However, the army is rife with anti-Semitism and Tolek is relentlessly tormented. As the Germans invade Poland, he is faced with a terrible dilemma: flee home to protect his family – and risk being shot as a deserter – or remain a soldier, hoping reports of women and children being spared by the occupying forces are true. What follows is an extraordinary odyssey that will take Tolek – via a daring escape from a Hungarian internment camp – to Palestine, where his ability to type earns him the title of ‘The Miracle Typist’, then on to fight in Egypt, Tobruk and Italy. A broken telegram from Klara, ending with the haunting words, ‘We trouble’, makes Tolek even more determined to find his way home and fulfil his promise. This heartbreakingly inspiring true story is brought vividly to life by Tolek’s son-in-law, Melbourne writer Leon Silver. ‘Incredible, heart-wrenching and inspirational.’ Better Reading

Australia's Greatest Escapes: Gripping tales of wartime bravery by Colin Burgess

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/390583 (https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/390583) to listen full audiobooks. Title: Australia's Greatest Escapes: Gripping tales of wartime bravery Author: Colin Burgess Narrator: Steve Shanahan Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 11 hours 7 minutes Release date: July 22, 2020 Genres: Military Publisher's Summary: Australia's greatest escape stories from two world wars    Australia’s Greatest Escapes is a collection of stories about the most hazardous aspect of the prisoner of war experience – escape. Here is all the adventure, suspense and courage of ordinary Australians who defied their captors; men who tunnelled to freedom, crawled through stinking drains, or clawed a passage beneath barbed wire in a desperate attempt to flee captivity.   They were willing to risk the odds and even death in the loneliest war of all – the fight to be free. Each possessed in spades the noble qualities of boldness, resourcefulness, cunning, determination and mateship we have come to admire about our Australian service men and women under adversity.   Featuring stories of Australian POWs from all theatres of war, including one who fled a German work camp during World War I, another involved in a mass tunnel escape from a notorious Italian camp, and an airman who brazenly attempted to steal a German fighter and fly it back to England. We also re-live the tragic saga of the Sandakan death marches in which six Australian escapers became the only survivors from 2000 POWs, and follow the perilous journeys to freedom undertaken by Australian infantrymen following the appalling massacre of their fellow soldiers on the Japanese-held island of Ambon.
