Episode 43 - Union College Legends - Ron Dodds and Matt Gal
On location from the historic Thunderdome at Union Adventist University, the show welcomes two legends of Union basketball, Coach Ron Dodds and Matt Gal, the best player to come through the school. **Correction: Ron was never the athletic director.
Fresh off the 2026 Adventist Hoops All-American weekend, the group recaps highlights and their impressions of its impact, noting the rapid chemistry and genuine spiritual engagement shown by the athletes during small groups and worships.
A major focus of the episode centers on the 40-year history of Union College basketball, which began in 1986. Episode 42 - Andrea Hoover - Former LA Sparks guard and Spring Valley Academy standout
Andrea is a former standout athlete at Spring Valley Academy (SVA) in Ohio, a member of the University of Dayton’s Hall of Fame, and a former guard for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. She shares her early athletic journey, explaining how growing up with older brothers fueled her passion for all sports—initially favoring flag football over basketball. She discussed her competitive AAU experience, the pressure of being the top player at a small academy, and how she meticulously perfected her shooting form. The group explores the intersection of her faith and her career, touching on how she managed playing on the Sabbath and navigating criticism from inside the church community. Andrea also details her highly successful college career at Dayton and the surreal unexpected moment she was drafted into the WNBA.
