Adventure isn't about waiting for the perfect moment - It's about making it happen. The Doing of the Thing. Each week we'll dive into topics like Bikepacking, Overlanding, Kayak Touring. Mountain Biking, Trip Planning, Gear List, Navigation and more. But here's the twist: it's not just talk. It's about action - getting out there and doing the thing.
Adventure is calling - are you ready to answer?
This week, we’re heading back to the desert to reflect on a recent trip filled with astrophotography, old memories, and quality time with a dear friend. Jeff shares stories and reminisces with a friend of nearly 28 years, reminding us why it’s sometimes best to leave the itinerary at home, slow down, and simply enjoy the moment.
We also dive into budget-friendly gear and a few new additions to our rigs, sharing what we’ve picked up and how we’re making the most of our setups without breaking the bank.
Finally, we’re talking maps! We share which maps we use, what we like about them, and why traditional maps still have a place alongside modern electronic navigation. Whether you’re planning your next adventure or finding your way out on the trail, having the right tools can make all the difference.
From starry desert skies and lifelong friendships to budget gear and navigation, this episode is a reminder that the best adventures aren’t always about the destination or the plan. Sometimes, it’s about the people you share them with and the moments you make along the way.

We’re Back… Again
After another unexpected week away from the mic, we’re back! The good news? It wasn’t COVID — so that’s a win.
This week, we’re talking about taking our own advice and putting some budget gear to work on our trucks. We both added some upgrades, including an 8-switch panel and bus bar, and quickly discovered just how much easier it makes wiring, troubleshooting, and keeping everything organized.
I also added some chase lights, while Vinny has some new grille lights on the way. Because apparently, trucks are never really finished.
We also talk about our plans to learn how to fly fish and our upcoming trip to the Mammoth Lakes area, which means we’re already thinking about the next adventure.
To wrap things up, we dive into something that may be sitting on your wrist right now: your Garmin watch. There’s a ridiculous amount of information available, especially when it comes to sleep and recovery. We talk about the importance of actually digging into that data instead of just looking at the daily sleep score and moving on.
Sometimes the gear isn’t just about buying it — it’s about learning how to use what you already have.
As always, thanks for listening, and we’ll see you out there doing the thing.

Back After an Unexpected Week Off
We’re back after an unexpected week off! Between dealing with a slab leak and getting ready for an upcoming trip, life got in the way for a bit. But we’re back and ready to talk about something every adventurer has to deal with: buying gear.
This week, we’re diving into the age-old question: When should you buy budget gear, and when is it worth spending the extra money on a name brand?
We talk about what goes into making that decision — how often you’ll use the gear, how important reliability is, durability, weight, comfort, repairability, and what happens if that piece of gear fails when you really need it.
And, of course, we talk about social media and how easy it is to get caught up in the latest gear, gadgets, and ”must-have” equipment. Just because someone else has it doesn’t mean you need it.
Before spending your hard-earned money, ask yourself: Do I really need it? What problem does it solve? And would I still want it if I hadn’t seen it on social media?
The goal isn’t to have the most expensive gear or the cheapest gear. It’s about finding the gear that works for you, your adventures, and your budget.
Because at the end of the day, the best piece of gear is the one that helps you get outside and do the thing.
