National Treasure is old enough to vote.
The Nicolas Cage-starring action thriller came out in 2004, and in that time, Aly Rubin (Malinger) has seen the movie upwards of (in her estimation) 50 times. It’s been the star of many a watch party, a scavenger hunt and even various tours around most cities on the eastern seaboard.
For many of us millennials, National Treasure is somehow a classic, a bit of a joke and a quote machine, despite being a cross between a run-of-the-mill spy thriller and an episode of Schoolhouse Rock. And yet, it has staying power, which is why National Treasure 3 is constantly being threatened. We’ll have it sooner rather than later, if I had to guess.

Movie Club: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
After some tough deliberation, Taylor Lehman decided on a TMNT action-comedy that came out five years before we were born. Why exactly? Well, you’ll have to listen to find out.
As we get into on the podcast, my history with TMNT is essentially non-existent, so you’ll get the perspectives of a fan and a clueless watcher. Which is what it’s all about, I think.
Anyway, we had a lot to say. Some of it good, some of it tangential, some of it ramble-y. It’s two guys on a podcast; that’s how these things go.

Movie Club: Under the Silver Lake
Back in the day, Kathrine Schulze and I ran a relatively successful (popularity-wise, not monetarily) newsletter called Six Pack in which we recommended things. Many … many people went out of their way to tell me that they liked her recs more. Well, now we’ll see if that’s still the case.
Kathrine and I saw Under the Silver Lake on streaming back when it came out in 2018, and she was still living in New York. And then a few days later, we saw it in theaters downtown at the Village East by Angelika. In the eight years since, Kathrine has gone back to it time and time again, and it really wasn’t a surprise when she claimed the David Robert Mitchell surrealist neo-noir for this week’s Aerial Shot: Movie Club.
For those who haven’t seen this Andrew Garfield movie, boy, you’re in for quite a time. And we definitely recommend trying to watch this before listening to the podcast, so what we’re saying makes the slightest of sense.
