I think that even in the lead up to the revolution, there was a lot of reference to among the revolutionary protesters to Islamic history, to the battle of Shia Islam is very focused on the political struggles that occurred after the Prophet's death and the tyrannical Umayyad caliphate that was resisted by who she is believed to be the rightful successors of the Prophet.
