The Game Ain’t Changed, Just the Faces: Shedeur Sanders, Eli Manning, and the Double Standard Draft

Yo, let’s talk about the NFL Draft — not just the picks and the highlight reels, but the *real* game behind the scenes. You know, where headlines hit different depending on your last name and the color of your skin. Right now, Deion “Prime” Sanders and his son Shedeur are at the center of it — and if you’ve been watching, you’ve definitely seen those red flags around media bias waving high. Let’s break this all the way down. The league is saying it’s about “merit,” but the narratives? They’re about *everything* but. Manning Moves vs. Sanders Swagger Let’s take it back to 2004. Eli Manning, son of Archie, brother of Peyton — pure football royalty. Eli straight up said, “Nah, I’m not playing for the Chargers.” Pops got on the phone, demanded the Giants, and guess what? Giants it was. The media? All praises: "The Mannings have always done what’s best for Eli, leveraging their deep NFL knowledge to find the perfect team fit." — [Sports Illustrated](https://www.si.com/nfl/2004/04/25/eli-manning) No one called him spoiled. No “entitled” talk. Just “savvy,” “legacy-defining,” “knows his worth.” A quarterback who makes big moves is a “leader”—but only if he looks the part. Now look at 2024. Enter Shedeur Sanders, with *prime* stats: 3,230 passing yards, 27 TDs, only 3 picks on a Colorado team with a paper-thin O-line. His pops Deion is loud and proud, telling the league: “We ain’t going just anywhere. You got to have an offensive line.” — [Deion Sanders, CBS Sports](https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/deion-sanders-draws-backlash-for-saying-son-shedeur-wont-just-play-for-any-nfl-team/) And what’s the media say? “Are Deion and Shedeur Sanders biting the hand that feeds them?” >— [Fox Sports](https://www.foxsports.com) “Is this modern empowerment, or entitlement run amok?” — [CBS Sports](https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/deion-sanders-draws-backlash-for-saying-son-shedeur-wont-just-play-for-any-nfl-team/) Shedeur’s being painted as a “problem” for knowing his value — let’s call it what it is: the double standard’s doing wind sprints and the finish line keeps moving. Stereotypes Still Running the Playbook You hear ’em every draft season. For a white QB? It’s “football IQ”…“poise”…“student of the game.” Black quarterbacks? “Tremendous athlete”…“raw talent.” That code is old, but it still gets thrown like a Hail Mary. Eli Manning’s scouting report? : “Exceptional field general… advanced football IQ due to upbringing… destined for leadership.” — [NFL.com Draft Profile](https://www.nfl.com/prospects/eli-manning/32004341-4c55-5607-4a7a-7b6bca06dae6/) Shedeur Sanders’? “Athletic, mobile, but needs to prove he can handle NFL complexity outside his father’s system.” — [Paraphrased, The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/) Stats don’t lie: Black quarterbacks accounted for 14 of 32 NFL starters last season—*the most ever*—and the league’s top MVP candidates (Mahomes, Lamar, Jalen Hurts) keep shattering “can’t read defenses” myths. Yet the language lags behind, like it’s still the ‘90s. Nepotism or Legacy? The Family Name Game Football’s got dynasties— but who gets the crown? Mannings? “Pedigree,” “Football royalty.” *No questions. No smoke.* Sanders? “Is he only good because of his pops? Is Deion too involved?” > “You wonder if Shedeur can handle not being the coach’s son anymore, or if it’s been too easy for him.” > — [Anonymous NFL Scout, The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/) Why is one family’s legacy “lineage” and the other’s “nepotism”? It’s Time for a New Playbook This isn’t just about Shedeur. It’s about how Black players—still, in 2024—have to outrun not just safeties, but the shade from fans and the media. Let’s flip the script: - When a brother calls his shot, say he’s smart, not “cocky.” - When a family protects their own, call it legacy, not “entitlement.” - Don’t let scouting reports slip into “athletic, but…” — acknowledge the *mental* game, too. Let’s keep it real: Eli played chess, and they crowned him king. Shedeur’s doing the same? He’s “difficult.” It’s the same game, different rules. Join The Conversation Want more history? Decoding Desire: Race, Relationships, and the Real Deal After Hours

Yo, what's up, After Hours crew? Let's talk about something real – the messy, complicated, and often unspoken world of race, relationships, and how history's baggage still weighs heavy on our dating lives. This ain't about pointing fingers or calling anyone out, but about getting honest about how the past shapes our present, especially when it comes to who we're attracted to and why. The Game's Rigged: A Historical Remix Let's rewind the tape. Remember those "love laws" that said Black and white folks couldn't mix? That wasn't just about romance; it was about power, control, and keeping folks in their "place." That legacy lingers, influencing how we view interracial relationships even now. We're talking unconscious biases, stereotypes, and a whole lot of baggage we might not even realize we're carrying. Beyond the "Type": Fetishization vs. Appreciation We all have preferences, right? But when "preference" turns into reducing someone to their race, that's where things get messy. Fetishization ain't about attraction; it's about objectification. It's about seeing someone as a symbol, not a person. This affects everyone, but let's be real, Black folks have been on the receiving end of this for centuries, from the Jezebel and Buck stereotypes to the exoticization we still see today. It's time to dismantle those harmful tropes and recognize the difference between genuine appreciation and reducing someone to a caricature. The Media's Makeover: Shaping Our Desires Hollywood, Instagram, TikTok – they're all in the business of selling us images of "ideal" beauty. But how often do those images reflect the real diversity of our world? Not often enough. And when interracial relationships *are* portrayed, they're often loaded with clichés and stereotypes. Media shapes what we think is desirable, and if we're not careful, we can internalize those messages without even realizing it. The Elephant in the DMs: White Supremacy's Shadow Let's not beat around the bush: white supremacy has shaped beauty standards for centuries. The message has been clear: whiteness is the ideal. That legacy continues to influence who we deem "attractive," and it's a conversation we need to keep having. We need to challenge those narrow definitions of beauty and create space for everyone to feel seen and valued. The Buck and the Burden: A Black Man's Perspective Now, let's bring it home to the brothers. Black men are navigating a complex landscape. They're dealing with the hypersexualization of the "Buck" stereotype while also facing a double standard when it comes to desirability. They might be fetishized one minute and dismissed the next. They carry the weight of representation, knowing their actions in interracial relationships can be scrutinized and judged more harshly. It's a heavy burden, and it's time to recognize the unique challenges they face. Real Talk: Moving Forward After Hours So, where do we go from here? It starts with awareness. It's about checking our biases, challenging stereotypes, and recognizing the power dynamics at play. It's about open communication and genuine respect. It's about creating a dating scene where everyone feels safe, seen, and valued for who they truly are. Let's keep the conversation going, After Hours fam. This is just a starting point. Consider adding personal anecdotes, listener call-ins, or interactive elements to further engage your audience and create a space for open and honest dialogue. Remember, the goal is to foster understanding, challenge harmful narratives, and create a more inclusive and equitable dating landscape for everyone. Trump's Housing Time Warp: Back to the Future... of Segregation? 😱

Hey AfterHourHighlighters! Grab your popcorn (and maybe a lawyer), because Donald Trump is taking us on a trip back in time – and not in a cool, "Back to the Future" DeLorean kind of way. He's got his sights set on the Fair Housing Act of 1968, and honey, it's about to get bumpy. Think of the Fair Housing Act as the ultimate real estate bouncer, saying "Nope, no discrimination allowed!" based on race, religion, national origin, family status, or disability. But Trump's got a problem with a specific part of the Act called "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing" (AFFH). This bit forces towns getting federal housing money to actually try and integrate their communities. Trump's take? It's government overreach, social engineering, and a threat to the sacred "suburban lifestyle."¹ So, what's the big deal? Imagine your town gets cash for affordable housing. AFFH says they gotta analyze where people live, spot any segregation, and make a plan to fix it. This might mean building affordable housing in fancier, mostly white areas, or helping minorities move to better neighborhoods. Trump sees this as forcing change, and he's not having it. He already weakened AFFH rules, and now he's promising to obliterate them if he gets back in office.² Hold up, this sounds familiar.. That's because it is! An AP article³ spilled the tea on Trump's long history of fighting fair housing, going back to the '70s when his company got sued for allegedly discriminating against Black renters. Talk about a blast from the past! This "suburban lifestyle" argument? It's a vintage Trump remix, dusting off old justifications for keeping neighborhoods segregated. The Domino Effect: The Fair Housing Act isn't a solo act. It's got backup singers, like the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which pushes banks to lend in poorer, often minority neighborhoods. Weakening AFFH could kneecap the CRA, making it harder for these communities to get loans and build wealth.⁴ And don't forget the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), which bans lending discrimination. While not directly tied to AFFH, a rollback could open the door to more shady lending practices.⁵ Why should you care? This isn't just political mumbo-jumbo. It affects where you live, who your neighbors are, and what opportunities are available. If AFFH vanishes, we could see a resurgence of segregated housing, with minorities stuck in underfunded areas with limited access to good schools, jobs, and healthcare. Remember the pre-Civil Rights era? Yeah, not a vibe. The Takeaway: Trump's attack on AFFH is a major red flag. It's not about "suburban lifestyles," it's about basic fairness. So, next time you hear someone whining about "government overreach," remember that sometimes, the government needs to step in to make sure everyone gets a fair shot. Stay informed, stay loud, and let's keep our neighborhoods diverse, inclusive, and vibrant. Share this with your crew – this fight is about all of us. 🥶 ARCTIC AWAKENING: A Pandemic From the ICE AGE! 🦠

The Arctic wind howled a mournful dirge across the desolate landscape, whipping snow into frenzied spirals. Dr. Anya Petrova, a virologist stationed at a remote research outpost in Siberia, knew something was terribly wrong. The permafrost, thawing at an alarming rate, was releasing more than just ancient methane; it was unleashing ancient viruses. Anya's team had discovered a previously unknown virus, trapped within the ice for millennia. Initially, they believed it was dormant, a relic of the ice age. But they were wrong. The virus, dubbed "Glacialis," was adapting, mutating at an alarming rate, fueled by the rapidly warming climate. The first cases were subtle – flu-like symptoms, followed by rapid deterioration. Then came the mutations. Victims developed grotesque physical changes – elongated limbs, distorted features, and an unnerving resilience to pain and injury. Glacialis wasn't just a virus; it was a biological weapon, honed by eons of evolution. Anya, haunted by the knowledge of her discovery, knew she had to warn the world. But communication was unreliable, the outpost isolated by the unforgiving Arctic landscape. As the virus spread, the outpost became a desperate fortress, its inhabitants fighting for survival against the infected and the encroaching darkness. Her team, a mix of scientists and support staff, fractured under the pressure. Dr. Ben Carter, a cynical epidemiologist, initially dismissed Anya's warnings, only to witness the horrifying transformation of his colleagues firsthand. His skepticism gave way to a desperate need for survival. Their only hope lay in a hidden research facility, rumored to hold the key to a potential cure. But reaching it meant traversing the vast, unforgiving Arctic wilderness, battling not only the infected but also the brutal elements. The journey was a harrowing odyssey, a desperate race against time and the relentless spread of Glacialis. Along the way, they encountered nomadic tribes, their traditional knowledge offering a glimmer of hope. The tribes spoke of ancient legends, of a time when the ice held a sleeping evil, an entity awakened by the warming earth. Their stories hinted at a ritual, a way to contain the virus, but it required a sacrifice – a life for a life. In a climactic confrontation at the research facility, Ben made the ultimate sacrifice, allowing Anya to secure the antidote. She escaped, carrying the hope of salvation, but the weight of her loss and the knowledge of Glacialis's potential for global devastation left her with a chilling understanding: the Arctic awakening was a stark warning. The melting permafrost wasn't just an environmental crisis; it was a harbinger of a new age of biological warfare, a terrifying consequence of humanity's disregard for the planet. The virus, a relic of the past, had been unleashed, and its chilling legacy would shape the future. Afterhourhighlights’s is a reader-supported publication. 🌊 The Great Barrier's CURSE: It's NOT Just Coral Bleaching! 😱

The turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef, once a vibrant tapestry of life, were now a ghostly expanse of bleached coral. This wasn't just environmental damage; it was a prelude to something far more sinister. The bleaching had awakened something ancient, something vengeful: the Reef Spirit. Dr. Lena Hanson, a marine biologist haunted by the reef's decline, was the first to notice the changes. The whispers started subtly – strange currents, unexplained disappearances of fishing boats, unsettling sounds emanating from the depths. Then came the nightmares – vivid visions of a colossal, bioluminescent entity, its form shifting between coral and shadow, its eyes burning with an ancient rage. Lena's warnings were dismissed as the ramblings of a grief-stricken scientist. The mining company, CoralCorp, continued its destructive practices, oblivious to the growing threat. Their CEO, the ruthless Julian Thorne, saw the reef not as a delicate ecosystem, but as a resource to be exploited. He scoffed at Lena's claims, dismissing them as superstitious nonsense. But the Reef Spirit was not to be ignored. Its attacks began subtly, targeting CoralCorp's equipment – sabotage that defied explanation. Then, the attacks escalated. Fishing boats vanished without a trace, their crews swallowed by the ocean's depths. Divers exploring the reef reported terrifying encounters with shadowy figures, their skin shimmering with bioluminescent coral. Lena, along with a skeptical but increasingly concerned marine park ranger, Ben Carter, formed an uneasy alliance. They knew they had to stop Thorne before the Reef Spirit unleashed its full fury. Their investigation led them to an ancient Aboriginal legend, a tale of a powerful ocean spirit, bound to the reef's health, capable of unleashing unimaginable wrath upon those who desecrated its sanctity. The legend spoke of a ritual, a way to appease the spirit, but it required a sacrifice – a symbolic offering of the polluters' most prized possession. Lena and Ben realized the sacrifice had to be Thorne himself. They infiltrated CoralCorp's headquarters, planning to expose Thorne's crimes and force him to make amends. Their plan was nearly foiled by Thorne's security forces, but the Reef Spirit intervened. The ocean itself seemed to rise up against Thorne, creating a maelstrom of currents and bioluminescent creatures that surrounded CoralCorp's headquarters. Thorne, witnessing the terrifying power of the Reef Spirit, finally understood the consequences of his actions. In a desperate attempt to save himself, Thorne tried to flee, but the ocean wouldn't let him. He was dragged beneath the waves, his screams swallowed by the churning water. The Reef Spirit's rage subsided, the bioluminescence dimming as the ocean calmed. The reef, though scarred, seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Lena and Ben knew the fight wasn't over. The damage was done, but their victory was a stark warning – a testament to the power of nature's fury and the devastating consequences of ignoring its cries for help. The Great Barrier Reef's curse served as a chilling reminder: the ocean's wrath is a force to be reckoned with, and its vengeance knows no bounds . 📉 The Dismantling of the Department of Education: What It Means for Black, Brown, and Low-Income Americans.

The U.S. Department of Education is facing an unprecedented shake-up under the Trump administration—massive workforce reductions, deep funding cuts, and the looming possibility of its complete elimination. While supporters claim this will curb government interference, the reality for Black, Brown, and low-income communities is far more alarming. This shift threatens to unravel decades of progress in education equity, dismantling vital programs that provide resources, protections, and opportunities for historically marginalized students. Without federal oversight, who will ensure that every child—regardless of race or income—has access to quality education? Afterhourhighlights’s is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. The Shrinking of Federal Protections For decades, the Department of Education has played a critical role in ensuring educational access for marginalized communities. Programs like Title I funding for low-income schools, Pell Grants for college students, and special education resources have been instrumental in closing opportunity gaps. With the Department now facing a reduction in workforce and funding, the burden shifts to state governments—many of which lack the infrastructure or political will to provide equitable educational support. Black and Brown students, who disproportionately rely on federal assistance for access to quality education, could see significant disruptions. States with a history of underfunding schools in marginalized communities may now have even less accountability to provide equal resources. Without federal oversight, policies like school desegregation efforts, affirmative action, and protections against discrimination could weaken. The Impact on Student Loan Borrowers Low-income students, particularly those of color, are more likely to take on student debt to finance higher education. The Department of Education currently manages over $1.7 trillion in student loans. With its potential dissolution, there are concerns about whether alternative management systems will prioritize borrower protections. Additionally, the rise of private school vouchers and charter school expansion has led to a redirection of public funds, exacerbating disparities between private and public institutions. Public schools, which serve the majority of Black, Brown, and low-income students, are already underfunded. The potential erosion of federal oversight could accelerate this trend, pushing more resources toward private and religious schools that often lack accountability in meeting the needs of marginalized students. Without strong oversight, predatory lending practices could surge, disproportionately harming first-generation college students and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds while further entrenching an unequal education system where access to quality schooling is increasingly tied to socioeconomic status. Cuts to Diversity and Equity Programs Recent moves to eliminate over $600 million in grants for programs centered around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) have sparked alarm. These programs provided critical support for students from marginalized backgrounds, offering mentorship opportunities, scholarship assistance, and culturally relevant curriculum development aimed at closing long-standing educational gaps. By gutting DEI-focused initiatives, the administration is not just cutting funding but dismantling essential pathways for underrepresented students to access higher education and career advancement. The rollback of these programs could significantly widen racial disparities in academic achievement and professional representation, reinforcing systemic inequities that DEI efforts were designed to combat. A Future of Inequality? Education has long been touted as the great equalizer, yet the current policy trajectory suggests a deepening of racial and economic divides. If the federal government relinquishes its role in funding and regulating public education, disparities in school resources, teacher quality, and college affordability will likely widen. As Black, Brown, and low-income families navigate these uncertain changes, advocacy at the state and local levels becomes even more crucial. Community organizations, grassroots efforts, and legal challenges may play a key role in ensuring that the most vulnerable students do not bear the brunt of these sweeping policy changes. The question remains: without a strong Department of Education, who will hold the system accountable for the success of all students—not just those with the means to access privilege? 🍄 Crimson Rot: A Dust Bowl Revenge.

The wind howled a mournful dirge across the cracked earth, whipping dust devils into frenzied dances. This wasn't the Dust Bowl of the past; this was its revenge. The relentless drought, years of scorched earth and failed harvests, had birthed something far worse than dust: the Crimson Rot. Sarah, a hardened farmer clinging to her family's dwindling homestead in the Oklahoma panhandle, watched her brother, Caleb, succumb to it. One day, a simple cough; the next, crimson lesions blooming across his skin, his eyes glazed over with a horrifying, fungal luminescence. Within days, he was a grotesque husk, a walking, talking spore-dispersal system, his voice a rasping whisper of fungal commands. Caleb wasn't the first. The Crimson Rot spread like wildfire through the parched communities, turning people into monstrous parodies of their former selves. The government, overwhelmed by the scale of the disaster, had collapsed into chaos. Isolated farmsteads became desperate fortresses, their inhabitants fighting for survival against the infected and the encroaching dust. Sarah, along with her fiercely loyal dog, Blue, and a grizzled ex-soldier named Silas, formed a desperate alliance. Silas, hardened by years of war, possessed a grim pragmatism that contrasted with Sarah's desperate hope. He believed the only way to survive was to escape the infected zone, to reach the rumored "Green Zone" – a mythical oasis untouched by the plague. Their journey was a harrowing odyssey across a landscape transformed into a nightmarish wasteland. They navigated through abandoned towns, their streets choked with the desiccated remains of the infected, their homes haunted by the rustling of spores. They fought off the infected, their grotesque forms a horrifying testament to the plague's power. The constant dust storms, choking and blinding, added another layer of terror. One night, huddled around a meager fire, Silas revealed a disturbing truth. The Crimson Rot wasn't a random mutation; it was a bioweapon, a failed experiment from a long-forgotten government facility. The drought had created the perfect conditions for its resurgence, turning the parched earth into a breeding ground for this fungal horror. Their hope rested on a hidden research facility, rumored to hold the antidote. But reaching it meant traversing the heart of the infected zone, a suicide mission. During their perilous journey, Sarah discovered a horrifying twist: the Crimson Rot wasn't just a physical plague; it was a mind-altering fungus, capable of manipulating its victims' memories and emotions. She began to question her own sanity, haunted by visions of Caleb, his voice whispering promises of peace within the fungal embrace. In a climactic confrontation at the research facility, Silas sacrificed himself to buy Sarah time to secure the antidote. She escaped, carrying the hope of salvation, but the weight of her loss and the knowledge of the bioweapon's existence left her with a chilling understanding: the Dust Bowl's revenge was far from over. The Crimson Rot, a testament to humanity's folly, had taken root, and its spores would continue to spread, a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of environmental destruction. 🌊 Submerged City: Bioluminescence and Ancient Terrors.

The salt spray stung Maya’s face as she clung to the rusted railing of the research vessel Argonaut. Below, the skeletal remains of New Orleans, half-submerged by the relentless rise of the Gulf, shimmered eerily under the bioluminescent glow emanating from the depths. Her team, a ragtag bunch of marine biologists and salvage experts, were on the verge of a breakthrough – or a catastrophic mistake. Maya, a seasoned oceanographer haunted by the loss of her coastal hometown, was driven by a desperate hope: to understand the source of the bioluminescence, a phenomenon that had intensified dramatically in the last decade, coinciding with the accelerating sea level rise. The glow wasn't just pretty; it pulsed with a rhythm that seemed to echo ancient, unsettling chants. And the sonar readings revealed colossal, unknown shapes moving in the murky depths. Their leader, Dr. Aris Thorne, a charismatic but reckless scientist, was obsessed with proving his theory: the rising waters had awakened something ancient, something far more terrifying than climate change itself. He’d ignored warnings from Maya and others about the potential dangers, pushing them deeper into the submerged city. Their submersible, the Triton, descended into the inky blackness. The bioluminescence intensified, painting the decaying buildings in an otherworldly light. They found evidence of a civilization far older than any known history – intricate carvings on submerged walls, strange, obsidian artifacts, and then, the horrors. Giant, bioluminescent creatures, vaguely humanoid but grotesquely distorted, drifted through the flooded streets. Their skin pulsed with the same eerie light, their eyes glowing with an unnerving intelligence. They weren't mindless beasts; they were guardians, protectors of something hidden deep within the city's heart. The Triton was attacked. One of the creatures, larger than the others, smashed against the submersible's hull, its claws scraping against the reinforced glass. Panic erupted. Dr. Thorne, blinded by ambition, ordered a desperate attempt to reach the city's central plaza, where he believed the source of the bioluminescence lay. They reached the plaza, a vast, sunken square dominated by a colossal, submerged temple. As they approached, the temple's surface began to glow with an unbearable intensity, revealing a horrifying truth: the bioluminescence wasn't just a natural phenomenon; it was a sentient entity, a vast, amorphous being trapped within the temple, its power fueled by the rising sea levels. It was the city's protector, and it was enraged. The Triton was crushed, its reinforced hull no match for the entity's power. Maya, miraculously surviving the implosion, found herself adrift in the flooded streets, the bioluminescent horrors closing in. She saw Dr. Thorne, his face contorted in a mixture of terror and awe, as one of the creatures dragged him into the depths. As the entity's power surged, Maya understood the terrible truth: the rising sea wasn't just a consequence of climate change; it was a catalyst, awakening an ancient evil that would consume the world unless humanity changed its ways. Her survival was a grim warning, a testament to the terrifying consequences of ignoring the planet's cries for help. The bioluminescent glow pulsed, a chilling reminder of the horrors lurking beneath the waves, waiting for the next flood. Nightbitch, Mothers' Instinct & Babygirl: What do these movies have in common?

While I sit here organizing my files, answering phone calls, and helping people find new homes, I can't help but reflect on three movies I watched over the weekend: "Nightbitch," "Mothers' Instinct," and "Babygirl." It feels great to be a woman! I'm so happy that these actresses were able to embody characters that allowed them to fully express themselves or showcase something unexpected. I wish more of us could focus on channelling our female rage in various ways, and I hope to express mine through these forms at some point in my life. The films "Nightbitch," "Mother's Instinct," and "Babygirl" each explore the complexities of female rage, showcasing how it can manifest in both constructive and destructive ways. While these three movies differ in plot and style, they share a common thread—highlighting the intensity of women's experiences and the societal pressures they face, particularly surrounding ageing, motherhood, and friendship. In "Nightbitch," we see a protagonist who grapples with her identity and societal expectations after becoming a mother. The title itself suggests a reclaiming of the term often used to demean women who express their frustrations. This film invites viewers to reflect on how postpartum struggles can transform into a deeper existential crisis, ultimately channelling rage into an exploration of self. The character’s journey amplifies the theme of defying traditional norms, suggesting that embracing one’s rage can lead to personal empowerment rather than despair. Similarly, "Mother's Instinct" delves into the darker sides of motherhood and friendship. The intense bond between the two main characters evolves into a web of jealousy and resentment, illustrating how societal pressures can distort relationships. The film exposes the raw emotions tied to motherhood and how unchecked rage can lead to catastrophic results. It serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of communication and understanding among women, emphasizing that while rage may stem from shared experiences, it can also fracture the bonds we hold dear. In "Babygirl," the exploration of female rage takes a different approach as the protagonist struggles with her identity amidst a world that often misunderstands her desires and ambitions. This film poignantly captures the battle between societal expectations and personal aspirations, showcasing how rage can be both a catalyst for change and a barrier to connection. The character’s ultimate journey illustrates the importance of finding healthy outlets for frustration rather than succumbing to societal pressures that dictate how women should behave. Across these films, the theme of friendship is central. Women often rely on their relationships with one another to navigate their dreams and struggles. However, intrinsic to this dynamic is the potential for unguided rage to surface, threatening to undo these relationships. The societal narrative surrounding ageing and the unrealistic expectations placed upon women can lead to internalized feelings of inadequacy and resentment, particularly in how women regard each other. We are often pitted against one another, making it all the more challenging to support each other through life’s changes. The treatment of women in these films illuminates a critical understanding of behaviour that can be shifted through empathy and proper regard. When women are seen, heard, and valued for their experiences, they are more likely to constructively process and express their emotions, including rage. Conversely, when they are marginalized and treated as unimportant, their rage can become toxic, resulting in hurtful actions that degrade relationships. Ultimately, these films open a window into the struggles and triumphs of women’s lives, inviting audiences to reflect on the importance of honoring female experiences. By showcasing the complexities of rage, they challenge us to redefine how we view aging, fertility, and personal aspiration. We must champion our friendships and uplift one another, finding healing rather than destruction in our shared experiences. By facing our emotions head-on and transforming them into positive action, we encourage a more compassionate society that celebrates the multifaceted nature of women's lives.
