Sports are a microcosm of society, with the power to strengthen social bonds and galvanize communities. They reflect cultural values, reinforce social norms, and can represent (inter)national relations. This exhibition draws on representations of sport in a variety of artistic media. Many celebrate the fun of the game and physical achievement, or champion athletes as role models. Others question racial and gender-based stereotypes that are revealed through sport.
Sports strike a delicate balance between playful, competitive fun and aggressive conflict.
