Episode 64: Season 2 Finale Part 4: Honoring the Call to Service of Vodou Priestesses, Scholars, and Teachers

As we close out another season of the podcast, we wanted to dedicate this final episode to honoring the Vodou community members who help connect people to the divine through spiritual service, healing, teaching, cultural preservation, and community care. From elders and initiates to scholars, priests, priestesses, and everyday practitioners, this episode is a celebration of the people whose dedication helps keep Haitian Vodou alive, accessible, and rooted in ancestral wisdom. We begin with a special Pawòl Pouvwa (Words of Power) segment exploring the meanings and significance of the words houngan and manbo. We discuss what these titles represent within Haitian Vodou, the responsibilities they carry, and why understanding their cultural and spiritual context matters. The heart of this episode features a special conversation on the Religious Dimensions of the Vodou Priestess, where we explore the role of women as spiritual leaders, ritual specialists, healers, teachers, and community builders within Vodou traditions. For this important discussion, we are honored to welcome Manbo Dr. Kyrah Malika Daniels, whose scholarship and insights help illuminate the depth, complexity, and significance of her priestess journey. As we conclude the season, we take time to honor the many Vodou priestesses, scholars, teachers, healers, and culture bearers who have contributed to the preservation and growth of Haitian Vodou across generations. Through a special roll call, we recognize both the well-known and the unsung individuals whose work continues to educate, inspire, and guide communities around the world. Whether you are a practitioner, student of African diasporic spirituality, or someone seeking a deeper understanding of Haitian Vodou, this season finale offers a heartfelt tribute to the people who dedicate their lives to serving spirit, community, and ancestral tradition. Episode 63: Season 2 Loving on the Lwas Finale Part 3: Lessons Learned

In part 3 of a 4 part season finale of Agua Cedito, we close out Season 2: Loving on the Lwas. After more than 40 episodes, this finale is not an episode-by-episode recap. Instead, it is a reflection on the heart of the season: what it means to build a respectful, loving, and responsible relationship with the Lwas. Throughout this season, we explored Haitian Vodou through devotion, history, ancestry, spiritual complexity, sacred power, and the ongoing work of decolonizing how we understand this tradition. We honored the Lwas not as characters, trends, or aesthetics, but as sacred forces, guides, protectors, teachers, and mysteries within Haitian Vodou. This episode reflects on the major lessons of the season: love as responsibility, the importance of humility, the danger of flattening the Lwas into stereotypes, the connection between Vodou, land, history, and liberation, and the role of the ancestors in keeping these traditions alive. We also take time to thank the guests, listeners, and community members who helped shape this season, share what Pwofese Konnen Ki Fe learned, and what is in store for Season 3.
