Ahmad Sulaiman Ibrahim, popularly known as Alaramma Ahmad Sulaiman, is a highly renowned Quran reciter, Islamic scholar, and cleric from Nigeria. He was born in 1966 in Kakumi, Kankara, Katsina State, Nigeria, into the family of Malam Suleiman Ibrahim.
Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman is celebrated across Nigeria and West Africa for his distinct and captivating recitation of the Holy Quran, with many reciters adopting his style. He primarily recites in the Hafs ‘an Asim narration. Digital Quranic archives feature an extensive collection of his complete Quranic recitations and various individual surahs. His voice is often described as touching and capable of profoundly impacting listeners, leading to widespread appreciation and numerous awards for his excellence in Quranic recitation.
His early life saw him attend an Islamic school at the age of nine, where he received both Islamic and Western education. He demonstrated remarkable dedication to his studies, leading to the memorization of the entire Quran at a very young age. During his academic and religious journey, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman has studied under and been influenced by prominent Islamic scholars. Notably, he recites during Ramadan Tafsir sessions with Sheikh Kabir Haruna Gombe, who is a well-known Islamic scholar in Nigeria and has taught and influenced many students in the country. This association highlights his connection to established scholarly lineages within the region.
Beyond his role as a reciter, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman Ibrahim is an active member of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), one of the largest Salafiyyah movements in Nigeria, which focuses on adherence to the practices of the Prophet Muhammad and his companions. His public service extends to education, having been appointed as a commissioner of education in Kano State by the former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. In March 2019, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman was unfortunately abducted but was released after 15 days, an incident that drew significant attention. His contributions to Islamic education and da’wah are extensive, solidifying his position as a leading figure in Islamic scholarship and Quranic recitation in Nigeria.
