About AI in Infrastructure Podcast
The AI in Infrastructure podcast focuses on how AI and adjacent capabilities are built, deployed, and scaled inside the world's largest enterprises from data platforms and GPUs to orchestration, governance, and energy management. As organizations modernize their technical foundations, these systems increasingly determine not only AI performance but long-term competitiveness. Published by Emerj AI Research and hosted by staff, the AI in Infrastructure podcast features conversations with Fortune 500 leaders and experts at the forefront of enterprise architecture and AI operations. Together, we examine high-level infrastructure trends and anticipate how emerging capabilities will shape the systems that support generative and agentic AI. As with all our Emerj programming, interviews featured on AI in Infrastructure are non-technical, focusing on what adjacent business leaders need to know to guide teams, steward governance, and make informed decisions about the platforms and infrastructure powering AI at scale.

Why Optionality Should Anchor Enterprise AI Infrastructure - with Alistair Speirs of Microsoft

[…] So then fast forward to AI. And I think the thing with AI is this is a platform shift. And a lot of the assumptions that we've made no longer carry forward. Every core is not the same anymore. It's not just another x86 core. There's definitely a lot of CPU cores in there. We now have to think about GPUs. We now have to think about the networking load. The load on a database, for instance, when it was humans accessing the database, maybe spin off a query once a day, once a quarter, once a month. all of a sudden an AI agent could be spinning up thousands of those requests to a database as well. And so your assumptions have to change even on your existing, we can use the term legacy, but I like to say, Successful infrastructure, the things that we built that have made our businesses successful today, we're going to keep them going, but they need to adapt to this AI infrastructure reality as well.
