Episode 044 - What If Commercial Property Is More Familiar Than You Think?
When you hear “commercial property”, do you picture huge shopping centres and office towers? It can feel like a world for bigger investors, especially when you’re worried about making a mistake.
But what about the local shops, medical practice or business spaces you visit every week?
In this episode, I share how a few recent conversations reminded me that commercial property had been part of my own family’s story for years. My parents owned a shop in Indonesia and rented it to another businessperson. Yet when I started investing in commercial property in Australia, my mum was worried.
I talk about how I took her concerns seriously and turned them into questions to check before moving forward. We also explore why something familiar can suddenly feel foreign in a different country or setting, and how that feeling can stop us from exploring what’s possible.
From family businesses to local consulting rooms, we look at the spaces around us through the eyes of a potential owner. What makes them useful? Could they support future income? And what would we need to understand about the costs, tenants and things that could change?
