One week follow up to the fires in Ruidoso, NM
The past week has been marked by disaster for people in and around Ruidoso, New Mexico. The two wildfires that ravaged parts of the resort mountain community — the South Fork Fire and the Salt Fire — were reported on Monday, June 17. Twenty-four hours later residents were ordered to evacuate and the fires destroyed more than 1,000 structures. Originating on the Mescalero Apache reservation, the two blazes have burned just over 24,000 acres in the area. With over 1,000 fire, emergency, and law enforcement personnel on the ground, containment numbers finally ramped up on Saturday morning. Please send me a message. Recap of the fires in Ruidoso, NM.
RUIDOSO, N.M. — According to New Mexico Forestry Division officials, the South Fork Fire has claimed about 1,400 buildings. The fire has grown to 15,276 acres as of Tuesday night. One person has died from the fire, according to the New Mexico Governor's Office. Advertisement The state Forestry Division said the fire grew Tuesday due to "long-range spotting," meaning that burning materials are carried up by winds and fall outside the current fire boundary. Ruidoso Fires
Please send me a message. Maybe what you'd like to hear about or what you think I'm doing wrong, (that will be a long list). (https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2345753/open_sms) Two fast-growing fires are tearing across a southern New Mexico tribal reservation and converging on a village “like a pair of tongs,” prompting thousands of residents to evacuate, officials say. A wall of smoke filled the sky over the village of Ruidoso on Monday evening as a line of cars snaked out of the community. An estimated 5,000 residents were ordered to evacuate the village area due to the approaching South Fork Fire, New Mexico Forestry spokesperson George Ducker told CNN. The South Fork Fire started Monday morning on Mescalero Apache tribal land and had spread to at least 3,000 acres by nightfall, Ducker said. It exploded in size overnight, authorities said. The fire has burned 13,921 acres with zero percent containment, the Village of Ruidoso said (https://x.com/VillageRuidoso/status/1803053651537129797) early Tuesday. A second blaze, the Salt Fire, is also burning on tribal land south of Ruidoso and had scorched 2,800 acres by early Tuesday. Trinity, the first Atomic bomb
Please send me a message. Maybe what you'd like to hear about or what you think I'm doing wrong, (that will be a long list). (https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2345753/open_sms) While Manhattan Project staff members watched anxiously, the device exploded over the New Mexico desert, vaporizing the tower and turning the sand around the base of the tower to a green glass. Seconds after the explosion came a huge blast wave and heat searing out across the desert. No one could see the radiation generated by the explosion, but they all knew it was there. The steel container "Jumbo," weighing over 200 tons and transported to the desert only to be eliminated from the test, was knocked ajar even though it stood half a mile from ground zero. As the orange and yellow fireball stretched up and spread, a second column, narrower than the first, rose and flattened into a mushroom shape, thus providing the atomic age with a visual image that has become imprinted on the human consciousness as a symbol of power and awesome destruction.
