AI & Christianity: Creation–Fall Ethics & Everyday Wisdom
Are Christians supposed to say a pragmatic “yes” or a terrified “no” to AI? Two pastors and a tech founder from our church family (Tyler) walk through Creation → Fall to name AI’s genuine gifts (language, creativity, access) and very real dangers (idolatry, isolation, deepfakes, bias, job loss). With practical guardrails you can use this week. What you’ll hear-Why “tool = neutral” isn’t enough: directing tech toward what God calls good.-Real uses that help people: coding, prototyping ideas fast, email/meeting notes, voice-to-text for dyslexia/ADHD, and tutoring-style learning.-Blessing vs. harm: how AI can free time for relationships—or erode patience, wisdom, and formation.-Lines we won’t cross: marriage/family/relationships are human; humans stay responsible for outcomes; don’t replace the Holy Spirit (e.g., sermon writing).-A simple ethics test: Would the recipient be hurt if they knew AI wrote this? If yes, write it yourself.Chapters00:00 Welcome & why we’re talking about AI00:00:47 Meet Tyler Wynce (tech founder) & hosts00:01:21 Real uses that bless: coding, prototyping, notes, accessibility00:02:01 Two reactions to AI: pragmatic “yes” vs terrified “no”00:03:23 When tools shape us: formation, efficiency; “tool not neutral”00:04:28 Framework: Creation → Fall (series Part 1)00:21:33 Guardrails & ethics: responsibility, relationships first, the “recipient test”00:41:25 Risks: surveillance & bias, deception & deepfakes00:42:37 Idolatry & the God-replacement check00:52:26 Risks: job loss & economic injustice00:57:28 Ministry boundaries: don’t replace the Holy Spirit / sermons01:10:08 Wrap-upUses that bless: brainstorming, prototyping without sunk-cost bias, accessibility, tutoringRisks in the Fall: idolatry, isolation, surveillance/bias, deepfakes, job displacement, sexual exploitationGuardrails: responsibility, relationships first, the “recipient test,” and not outsourcing discernment to AIScriptures referencedGenesis 1–3; Genesis 2:15 (work & keep); themes of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5), patience & formation (e.g., Romans 12).Try this this week-Use the recipient test before you let AI draft anything personal.-Delegate tasks, not relationships: let AI handle admin; you handle people.-Practice formation over information: pray first, then research.-Link to Reflection Questions: redtem.in/AiReflectionQuestionsJoin the conversationComment: Where would you draw the line with AI?Subscribe & 🔔 for future episodesShare this episode with a friend who’s sorting out AI & faith.
