Why Is It So Hard to Let Yourself Feel Joy?
Episode 51: Why Is It So Hard to Let Yourself Feel Joy? Have you ever been in the middle of a beautiful moment…and suddenly found yourself thinking about how it’s going to end? You’re watching your kids play and think, They’ll never be this little again. You’re on an incredible vacation and start thinking about having to leave.Someone gives you a compliment, and instead of letting yourself receive it, you immediately brush it off. Or life simply feels really, really good—and your brain starts searching for what could go wrong. In this episode of All The Feels, Lauren wraps up her five-part emotions deep dive with an emotion you might not expect: joy. Joy itself isn’t getting in the way of the life you want to live. But our difficulty fully allowing and receiving joy sometimes can. Lauren explores foreboding joy—what happens when a moment feels so good, meaningful, or precious that our minds begin preparing for the possibility of losing it. Instead of staying inside the joy that's here, we leave the moment early in an attempt to protect ourselves from future pain. But leaving joy early doesn’t protect us from losing something we love.It only causes us to miss part of the life that’s happening right now. In This Episode, Lauren Explores: Why joy can be one of the most vulnerable emotions to fully experience What foreboding joy is and why our minds use it as a form of protection Why you might jump to worst-case scenarios in the middle of a beautiful moment How worry can pull you out of joy before the joyful experience has actually ended Why the impermanence of joy is a reason to receive it—not a reason to protect yourself from it The difference between practicing joy and toxic positivity How Lauren’s trips to Disney World unexpectedly became a practice in expanding her capacity for joy Why joy doesn’t require everything around you to be perfect How simple objects, songs, photographs, rituals, and sensory experiences can become “joy reminders” Why we sometimes reach for quick, controllable pleasure instead of staying with the vulnerability of deeper joy How to recognize when your mind is pulling you out of a joyful moment A simple practice for staying with joy for just 10 seconds longer How to create a joy practice that fits your actual life ✨ Private Coaching with Lauren (https://calendly.com/theemotionscoach/emotionalfreedomcall) Work one-on-one with Lauren to build emotional wealth, understand your emotional patterns, and create the emotional capacity needed to move through life with clarity and confidence. Feeling Overwhelmed? 4 Ways to Figure Out What You Actually Need
Episode 50: Feeling Overwhelmed? 4 Ways to Figure Out What You Actually Need When you feel overwhelmed, what do you usually do? Maybe you procrastinate. Scroll your phone. Start five things and finish none of them. Hyper-focus on one tiny detail. Or shut down completely because you have absolutely no idea where to begin. But what if overwhelm isn’t the problem? What if it’s actually trying to tell you something? In this episode of All The Feels, Lauren continues her five-part emotions deep dive with overwhelm and explores why not every experience of overwhelm needs the same response. Sometimes you genuinely have too much on your plate, and something needs to change or you need more support. Sometimes you need one tiny starting place to help you move forward. Sometimes overwhelm has become tangled up with fear, frustration, self-doubt, anxiety, disappointment, or other emotions that need their own attention. And sometimes overwhelm may actually be covering up another emotion or truth that feels harder to face. Instead of trying to bulldoze through overwhelm, Lauren invites you to slow down, get curious, and figure out which kind of overwhelm you’re experiencing, and what it might actually be asking of you. In This Episode, Lauren Explores: Why overwhelm isn’t a character flaw or proof that you’re incapable How procrastination, distraction, and shutting down can be attempts to find relief from overwhelm Four different ways to understand what your overwhelm may be asking for Why sometimes there genuinely is too much and the answer is to reduce the load, change expectations, ask for help, or bring in reinforcements How changing capacity may require changing your expectations How to recognize when you don’t need to do less—you simply need one tiny starting place Why you don’t need to figure out the entire project before you can begin How Lauren used the “one tiny starting place” approach to build her first coaching program What emotional overwhelm looks like when fear, frustration, anxiety, self-doubt, disappointment, and other emotions get tangled together How separating an emotional “swirl” can help you understand what you actually need Why overwhelm can sometimes become a familiar emotional habit How overwhelm may be covering up another feeling or truth you’re not quite ready to face How ADHD, executive functioning, sensory needs, hormones, health, grief, stress, caregiving, and capacity can influence overwhelm Four questions to ask yourself the next time overwhelm shows up ✨ Private Coaching with Lauren (https://calendly.com/theemotionscoach/emotionalfreedomcall) Work one-on-one with Lauren to build emotional wealth, understand your emotional patterns, and create the emotional capacity needed to move through life with clarity and confidence. Worry vs. Concern: How to Stop Living in the “What Ifs”
Episode 49: Worry vs. Concern: How to Stop Living in the “What Ifs” Have you ever had a worry that just…keeps going? You rehearse the conversation again. Imagine another possible outcome. Think through what could go wrong. Make a plan. Revisit the plan. And somehow, even after all that thinking, you don’t actually feel any more prepared. That’s the thing about worry. It often begins because we genuinely care about something—but when there’s nowhere useful for that worry to go, our minds can keep circling, trying to solve a future that simply can’t be solved yet. In this episode of All The Feels, Lauren continues her five-part emotions deep dive with worry and explores a distinction that completely changed her relationship with it: Worry asks us to ruminate. Concern asks us to respond. Lauren shares four different patterns of worry she has noticed in her own life and work, how to recognize what may be underneath them, and how to determine whether there is something useful you can actually do—or whether it’s time to gently return to the life happening right in front of you. In This Episode, Lauren Explores: Why worry can take up so much mental space without actually creating greater clarity The difference between useful preparation and trying to mentally guarantee an outcome How anxiety, fear, and worry can overlap and play off one another Why worry is often connected to something we deeply care about Four different worry patterns: anticipatory, powerless, roaming, and protective/vigilant worry Why worry can sometimes feel like a way to create control when we actually feel powerless What happens when worrying becomes your brain’s familiar default How past experiences can teach your mind that constant vigilance is necessary for safety Why sleep, hormones, stress, physical health, sensory input, movement, nourishment, and support can influence how loud worry feels The important difference between worry and concern How to identify when something actually requires action Why you don’t have to keep thinking about something to prove that it matters to you Free Resource: Becoming Friends With Fear Want some support putting this episode into practice?Lauren created the Becoming Friends With Fear Guide, which includes the questions from this episode, the Fear Safety Check, and the four approaches you can experiment with when fear shows up. ✨ DOWNLOAD THE BECOMING FRIENDS WITH FEAR GUIDE HERE (https://angelic-apple-251.myflodesk.com/fear) ✨ Private Coaching with Lauren (https://calendly.com/theemotionscoach/emotionalfreedomcall) Work one-on-one with Lauren to build emotional wealth, understand your emotional patterns, and create the emotional capacity needed to move through life with clarity and confidence.
