Another Bauer film that also provides some rare, historical footage.
Here’s the screenshot I mentioned in the podcast. If they only knew…
I watched an mp4 of this film, which I’ve shared below. The film is in the public domain, and can be viewed legally here.
Next I’m watching The Cure [1917], directed by Charlie Chaplin.

Max Wants a Divorce [Mar. 26, 1917]
Max Linder made 233 films. I’ve clearly missed the boat on him, as Max Wants a Divorce was among his final films. He only made 10 more after this one.
I watched this on a DVD that includes 3 other Linder films. Click the image below if you’d like to buy a copy of your own. (I get nothing if you do, so this isn’t a ploy to make money.)
The film is in the public domain, and can be viewed here.
Here is the other film I watched, from 1911, which predates Chaplin’s earliest works by 3 years. Linder is already light years ahead of Chaplin here, and it’s criminal that he’s not better known.
Next I’m watching A Revolutionary [1917], directed by Yevgeny Bauer.

The Poor Little Rich Girl [Mar. 5, 1917]
Another Mary Pickford movie, this one is listed on imdb.com (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0008443/reference/) as The Poor Little Rich Girl, though you can see from the poster below that it was originally titled with an “a” rather than a “the.”
The film has all sorts of clever camerawork and plot points. Here’s my favorite: when Pickford shouts through the keyhole that she hates her new playmate, we see the words come bursting through to the other side!
I watched this on a Blu-ray, which is, sadly, now out of print. As of this writing, there is a copy for sale on Amazon for $213. It’s a great disc, with 4 great films, but probably not worth that much. Or is it? There is one for sale on eBay for a mere $475! Click the image below if you’d like to buy the less expensive copy.
The film is in the public domain, and can be viewed here. The quality isn’t great, but it’s definitely watchable.
