Almost Macho

About Almost Macho

The 20s were for learning. The 30s were for building. The 40s are for unlearning. We were taught to provide, protect, and produce using an old playbook. It worked for them. It does not fully work for us. By 40's, the noise of who society says you should be fades. What remains is a harder question: What is the definition of a modern man?? This is not about more information. It is about shedding scripts you did not write. It is about values, identity, marriage, money, fatherhood, and legacy done consciously. Almost Macho is a candid Hinglish conversation between Preet and Dhiren We aren't gurus; we’re men sharing the life lessons we wish we knew in our 20s and 30s. The One about women's menstrual cycle.

Be honest. How many times have you asked "are you PMSing?" without knowing a thing about her period or what her body actually goes through every month? Most men have done it. We had too. This is the episode where two married men admit how little we knew about periods, PMS, and the monthly reality our partners live with. Preet grew up watching his mother sit alone in a room. Untouchable. Kept out of the kitchen and the temple. Neither of us was ever sat down and told what a period actually is. So we did the thing men are taught never to do. We asked. Our wives, our sisters, our families. One conversation ran ninety minutes, and we realised we had been getting almost everything wrong. In this episode: The difference between PMS and the actual cycle, because they are not the same thing The four phases every man should understand The cultural and religious shame South Asian men inherit around periods Why she often doesn't want you to fix it, she wants you to sit with her How this one topic quietly damages a marriage when nobody talks about it No lecture. No therapy-speak. Just two men, uncomfortable and honest, having the conversation we should have had twenty years ago. She's not crazy. We were just never told. If you are a woman who has wished he understood, send this to him. If you are a man, listen, then ask her what she knows. Men don't talk. Until now. New episode every other Thursday. Why High-Earning Men Still Feel Broke

Most men think they're not earning what they deserve. The real question is what men are telling themselves about what they deserve. Preet and Dhiren open up the thing most men never say out loud: their relationship with money. Not budgeting. Not investing. The story underneath it. Preet talks about losing his father, and the financial pressure that sat behind it. Dhiren talks about sitting in a members' club for six months, too ashamed to invite anyone in. Both of them admit, on tape, that they don't believe they deserve $10 million. They get into where the money story starts, why it follows you into your marriage, why founders underprice themselves, and the shift that changes it: money isn't a fixed pot. We can all be rich together. If you've ever underpriced yourself, refused money that was offered to you, or fought with your partner about money and never understood why, this one is for you. Mentioned: The Science of Getting Rich (Wallace D. Wattles), Happy Money (Ken Honda), Taki Moore, working with a money coach. Almost Macho. Not a perfect man. A better one. Note: this episode discusses suicide and mental health.

The one about boys and their toys

We hide the receipt. We say "no, this isn't new." We buy the bag and feel guilty before we even use it. Why? 👇 This week on Almost Macho, Preet and Dhiren dig into the guilt men carry around spending money on themselves, and where that voice in your head actually comes from. If you've ever downplayed something you bought so you didn't look like you were showing off, this one's for you. In this episode we break down: The bag one of us lied to his wife about Tall poppy syndrome and why we shrink to stay in the group "You only get the things you think you deserve" The per-use test that kills buyer's guilt for good Our proudest and most regretted buys, including one that still stings at 2,800 dirhams

07 The one about why men feel guilty doing nothing

Why do men feel guilty doing nothing? Why does resting feel like failing? Most men can't sit still for 60 seconds without reaching for their phone. We tested it on camera. The anxiety hit within 15 seconds. In this episode of Almost Macho, Preet Sagar and Dhiren Bhatia break down the Screen Prison. 6.7 inch phone. 16 inch laptop. 55 inch TV. Repeat. A life lived inside boxes. We talk about being raised to believe stillness is laziness. The South Asian household where sleeping in was a moral failing. And why men in their 30s and 40s are quietly burning out chasing a finish line that doesn't exist. If you can't handle 60 seconds of silence, this episode is for you. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 Why doing nothing feels worthless 01:25 These are the good old days 04:32 Grocery shopping with your wife 05:31 The shame of resting 06:48 The Screen Prison 08:08 Dubai childhood: rest was lazy 10:30 What doing nothing means at 20, 30, 40 12:50 Human Doing vs Human Being 15:00 Waiting for the other shoe to drop 18:30 Dopamine and the addiction to pings 21:00 Renting a village 23:14 Brain defragmentation 26:40 The shower scene that changed me 30:00 Finite vs infinite games 33:00 Trader or investor? 37:00 Where is happiness? 40:00 Mortality and urgency 44:33 The 1 minute challenge, live 46:00 What 60 seconds of silence felt like 49:00 Lying: the African word for doing nothing 51:00 Books and podcasts we recommend 📚 REFERENCES 4000 Weeks by Oliver Burkeman The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle The Bear (FX) Bridgerton (Netflix) Case 63 (Spotify Original Podcast) Simon Sinek: Finite vs Infinite Games Do Nothing Timer: https://donothingfor2minutes.com (https://donothingfor2minutes.com) 🔗 CONNECT Almost Macho Podcast Dhiren Bhatia Instagram: https://instagram.com/dhirenb (https://instagram.com/dhirenb) LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/dhirenb (https://linkedin.com/in/dhirenb) Preet Sagar Instagram: https://instagram.com/sagarpreet (https://instagram.com/sagarpreet) LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/preetsagar (https://linkedin.com/in/preetsagar) #AlmostMachoPodcast #MensMentalHealth #HustleCulture #DoingNothing #BurnoutRecovery #SouthAsianMen #MasculinityPodcast #SlowLiving #SimonSinek #4000Weeks #HumanBeingNotHumanDoing

06 - The One About Elders

Most South Asian men take advice from the people closest to them—parents, uncles, or neighbors—without asking one critical question: Do I actually want their life? If the answer is no, stop listening. In this episode of Almost Macho, Dhiren Bhatia and Preet Sagar dismantle the "Biological Elder" trap. We explain why biological elders provide advice from an era that no longer exists and how to find the "Reference Models" who have the scar tissue you actually need. In this episode, we unpack: The Proximity Problem: Why your best friend is the worst person to ask for business advice. The Disrespect Myth: Why you can respect your parents without following their outdated maps. Role-Based Guides: Why you need different elders for being a father, a husband, and a business owner. The 2-Step Rule: Why your mentor should only be two steps ahead of you—not 100. If you feel isolated in your 40s, this is your blueprint to find the tribe that actually pushes you forward. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 The Modern Elder defined 01:31 Why your parents’ era is dead 03:07 Don't take advice if you don't want their life 04:33 Why we can't do this alone 05:43 Finding Reference Models vs. Reinventing the Wheel 07:22 The Parenting Gap (Newborns vs. Teens) 12:07 Role-Based Guidance: Choosing your council 14:18 The "Emotional Maturity" Requirement for Elders 📚 REFERENCES 📘 Reference Models & Blueprints 📘 The Tribal Elder Concept ⸻ 🔗 CONNECT WITH US 🎙 Almost Macho Podcast 👤 Dhiren Bhatia 📸 Instagram: (https://www.google.com/search?q=https://instagram.com/dhirenb/)https://instagram.com/dhirenb/ (https://instagram.com/dhirenb/) 💼 LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/dhirenb/ (https://linkedin.com/in/dhirenb/) 👤 Preet Sagar 📸 Instagram: https://instagram.com/sagarpreet/ (https://instagram.com/sagarpreet/) 💼 LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/preetsagar/ (https://linkedin.com/in/preetsagar/)

   The One About Boys Trip

he Secret Every Wife Suspects (The Boys Trip) Most men view a “Boys Trip” through the lens of a Hollywood cliché: drunken chaos and regret. They are wrong. For the high-capacity professional, these trips are a vital psychological survival mechanism. It is the only time most men feel safe enough to shed the “provider armor,” drop the ego, and reconnect with the version of themselves that isn't defined by a mortgage or a job title. In this conversation, we break down why modern masculinity is suffering from a lack of "shoulder-to-shoulder" connection and why your ability to lead your family depends on your ability to occasionally leave them. The One About Less Goals More Wins

The 20s were for learning. The 30s were for building. The 40s require focus. Most men don’t fail because they lack ambition. They fail because they chase too many goals. In this episode of Almost Macho, we break down our annual review process and why setting one meaningful goal beats chasing five half-finished ones. We talk about: • How to properly close your year • The 7 domains of life • Why vision should be loose, not perfect • The power of one Big Hairy Audacious Goal • Identity over outcome • Consistency over intensity • Why most goal-setting systems fail Less goals. More wins. The one about bad relationship advice

Husbands don’t usually explode. They slowly withdraw. And most wives never see it coming. No one teaches men how to handle marriage. We learn how to make money. We learn how to compete. We never learn how to love. In this episode of the Almost Macho Podcast, we break down the relationship advice most of us inherited — and why some of it is quietly damaging modern marriages: • “Be the man of the house.” • “Never go to bed angry.” • “Wives shouldn’t get special treatment.” • Emotional dumping disguised as honesty. • Why masculine and feminine energy are different — not equal. This conversation is not about blaming men. It’s not about blaming women. It’s about understanding why so many husbands feel unseen…and why so many wives feel unheard. If you’re married, dating, or planning to build a life with someone — this episode will challenge how you think about roles, communication, leadership, and connection. Because marriage doesn’t fail from one big explosion. It fades from slow withdrawal. 📚 Books mentioned: • Nonviolent Communication • The Way of the Superior Man 🔔 Subscribe for more honest conversations on masculinity, marriage, and modern life.

The one about Daddy issues that ruined our Macho!

The 20s were for learning. The 30s were for building. The 40s are for unlearning. Most South Asian men grew up in homes where love was real… but fear was louder. If you were raised by a strict Indian dad, you know the feeling. When father came home, the house went quiet. Not because he didn’t care. Because he carried pressure he never learned to express. In this episode of Almost Macho, we break down Indian parenting style, South Asian fatherhood, emotional suppression in Asian households, and how fear-based respect shaped an entire generation of men. We unpack: • Respect built on fear in Indian families • Work stress turning into anger at home • The “stone face” father • Anger vs aggression in men • Growing up too fast as the “man of the house” • Breaking generational trauma in South Asian culture • Raising sons and daughters without fear This is a conversation about modern masculinity, emotional intelligence, and redefining fatherhood in India and the diaspora. If you’re a father, this one might challenge you. If you’re a son, this one might explain a lot. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 Strict Indian Dad Energy 02:45 The Zakir Khan Father Therapy Moment 06:10 Love That Came Out as Anger 09:20 Work Stress Inside Indian Homes 13:05 Anger vs Aggression in Men 16:40 Becoming “Man of the House” Too Early 21:10 Raising Sons Without Fear 25:30 Raising Daughters With Strength 30:00 The Promise Modern Fathers Must Make 33:45 Why Love Shouldn’t Be Earned 36:30 Breaking Generational Patterns 📚 BOOKS & REFERENCES 📘 The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read – Philippa Perry https://www.amazon.com/dp/1984879553 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1984879553) 📘 The Body Keeps the Score – Bessel van der Kolk https://www.amazon.com/dp/0143127748 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0143127748) 📘 Atomic Habits – James Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/0735211299 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0735211299) ⸻ 🔗 CONNECT WITH US 🎙 Almost Macho Podcast 👤 Dhiren Bhatia 📸 Instagram: https://instagram.com/dhirenbh/ (https://instagram.com/dhirenbh/) 💼 LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/dhirenb/ (https://linkedin.com/in/dhirenb/) 👤 Preet Sagar 📸 Instagram: https://instagram.com/sagarpreet/ (https://instagram.com/sagarpreet/) 💼 LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/preetsagar/ (https://linkedin.com/in/preetsagar/)

The one about redefinition of Macho

The 20s were for learning. The 30s were for building. The 40s are for unlearning. Nobody taught us how to be men. We were taught to provide, protect, and perform. But no one explained identity, fatherhood, emotional control, marriage, ambition, or what happens when success stops feeling like success. In this first episode of Almost Macho, Preet Sagar and Dhiren Bhatia unpack what modern masculinity means for South Asian men navigating their 30s and 40s. We discuss: • The old playbook of masculinity • Why “macho” needs redefining • Saying no as power • Midlife shifts and career resets • Fatherhood and responsibility • Why so many men feel lost at 40 This is a Hindi-English conversation about identity, growth, modern masculinity, and breaking inherited scripts without disrespecting where we came from.
