Laura Stotts: Forgotten Houses, WWII Letters, & What Abandonment Teaches Us. EP 19
On the Actors Podcast, Episode #19, the host interviews photographer and content creator Laura Stotts, known online as Diary of Abandonment, who documents abandoned and forgotten houses, artifacts left behind, ghost towns, and gravestone cleaning.
Laura traces her fascination with abandonment to childhood memories of Hurricane Bonnie in 1987, when her Texas apartment complex became suddenly deserted, and explains how her work grew from roadside photos to documenting over 1,000 locations across 19 states, including hospitals and prisons. They discuss how “proof of life” objects spark nostalgia and highlight life’s brevity, the importance of family relationships, and genealogy as a tool for healing and understanding generational trauma.
Laura shares a major find: a large collection of WWII letters, including a story of a B-24 pilot killed in action, and describes her sobriety journey, faith, and service to others.

Catching Up with George Gallagher: The Changing of the Audition Game. Ep 18
Douglas chats with his good friend George Gallager on how production and casting are shifting across markets noting. They compare in-room auditions—where rapport reading the room and charisma could influence outcomes—with the current self-tape and live Zoom era describing self-tapes as a technical often demoralizing “vacuum” but also empowering due to control over time and the ability to review the final product. They share strategies and challenges: fast turnaround, experimenting with lighting and cinematic setups using phones and apps managing sound quality and coping with reader availability.
They recount anecdotes about bombing auditions booking from standout tapes casting their own series and observing how charisma in-person can change casting outcomes. The conversation includes examples of actors taking bold risks in auditions and emphasizes risk-taking as a key differentiator. They reflect on training and mentorship (Wynn Handman, Meisner-based work, Harold Guskin, Tim Phillips) the value of audience feedback and concerns about AI-written content lacking human voice.
They predict increased hunger for real live experiences while also acknowledging theater’s financial struggles.
