There’s theology hiding in ordinary life — in routines, in distractions, in the moments we rush past. Most of us move too quickly to notice. Anchor Points is a short, story-driven devotional hosted by Devin Almonte. Each episode lingers over something familiar and uncovers what Scripture has been saying about it all along. This isn’t a rushed devotional or a motivational boost. It’s steady formation. Quiet conviction. Truth that anchors.
You're Building Your Life Backward. | Anchor Points | Ep. 105
Imagine trying to build a house by putting the roof on first. It wouldn't work very well, would it? And yet, sometimes that's exactly how I approach things.
I remember painting our basement without using primer. I was so excited to see the room finished that I didn't want to bother with that first layer. Unfortunately, the paint didn't hold up the way I hoped.
I've been thinking about how that relates to my faith. I want the beautiful finished product, a strong faith, a life that reflects Jesus, but am I taking the time to build on His truth? It's easy to want the results without the foundation. Maybe today is an invitation to return to the beginning and make sure we're building on something that lasts.
Scripture (NIV):
1 Corinthians 3:11 — “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Reflection Questions:
Am I spending more time chasing spiritual results than building my foundation in Christ?
What part of my faith needs a little more attention at the foundation?
What's one small way I can ground myself in God's truth today?

I Skipped One Step…Big Mistake. | Anchor Points | Ep. 104
A few years ago, I decided to paint our basement for the kids. I wanted to make the space look nice, and I figured I could save some time by skipping a few things. Primer? Painter's tape? Drop cloth? Surely those weren't all necessary.
Well, the paint on the carpet and the peeling walls eventually told a different story. I wanted the finished product without doing the work that needed to come first.
And I have to admit, I can approach life that way, too. I get impatient, rush through decisions, and sometimes skip steps because I just want to get somewhere. But those little steps matter. God's wisdom reminds me that taking the time to build something properly is never wasted time.
Scripture (NIV):
Proverbs 24:27 — “Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.”
Reflection Questions:
Where have I been trying to rush through a process?
Are there important steps I've been tempted to skip?
How can I slow down and trust God's wisdom in what I'm building?

What If God Wants the Harder Road? | Anchor Points | Ep. 103
Nobody enjoys driving down a road full of potholes. If I see one coming, I'm going around it. Give me the smooth road every time.
But I'm facing a decision right now, and the easier path doesn't seem to be the one God is nudging me toward. That's a little uncomfortable because I can already see some of the bumps ahead, and I'm not even sure I'll like the outcome.
I've been reminded that following God isn't always about arriving somewhere wonderful or getting the result I hoped for. Sometimes the real growth happens along the road itself, through the simple decision to trust Him and obey. Even when the path isn't smooth, I can trust the One leading me.
Scripture (NIV):
Proverbs 3:5 — “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”
Reflection Questions:
Am I choosing a path because it's easier or because I believe God is leading me there?
Is there an outcome I'm holding onto more tightly than my trust in God?
What might obedience look like in a decision I'm facing right now?
