Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is one of his more complex films. Kubrick spent decades contemplating the production of a film about the Nazi holocaust and it is claimed by critics that his initial attempt to understand genocide on film is manifest in the film’s references to the Indigenous American genocide.

Gerald Horne on Two Forthcoming Titles
Andie-Land: Lost in Transition is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Over the years I have interviewed Dr. Gerald Horne about his latest publications, it has been clear that his aspirations revisit again and again major issues he raised forty years ago in his biography of W.E.B. Du Bois, Black and Red: W.E.B. Du Bois and the Afro-American Response to the Cold War, 1944-1963 (https://www.intpubnyc.com/browse/black-and-red-40th-anniversary-edition/). In the interview we conducted here, we discussed the republication of that volume as well as a new volume about post-bellum Confederates seeking to expand the slave trade via Egypt and an invasion of Ethiopia. Slavery, the Slave Trade and the Roots of U.S. Imperialism (https://www.intpubnyc.com/browse/slavery-theslavetrade/) is slated for publication at the end of July.
