Becoming a Neighbour || 18th of October, 2026
Series: ‘Becoming’
Scripture: Deuteronomy 34:1-12 & Matthew 22:34–46
Who: Rev'd Stewart Perry
Rev’d Stewart Perry continues our “Becoming” series, focusing this week on becoming a neighbour (Matthew 22:37-39). Rev’d Perry drives into why being a good neighbour is paramount to Holy Trinity’s mission of restoring lives, revitalising churches, and transforming the Gold Coast with the love of Jesus.
Key points:
- We underestimate the difference we can make as neighbours, and the difference our neighbours can make in our own lives.
- We can get caught up by the individualist mindset of our world, yet we are called to love others as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39).
- You are the neighbour people have been longing, waiting and looking for.
- We don’t finish loving God and then move on loving people - Our love of God takes shape in how we love and serve those around us.
- We are called to love the ones we’re with.
- Loving our neighbour is an act of holiness (Leviticus 19).

The Invitation || Rev'd Nate Hayes
The Invitation || 11th of October, 2026
Series: ‘Becoming’
Scripture: Exodus 32:1-6 & Matthew 22:1-14
Who: Rev'd Nate Hayes
Rev’d Nate Hayes kicks off our new sermon series called “Becoming”, which is going to focus on what it mean to be a disciple of Jesus, to learn from him, spend time with him and ultimately become more like him. In this sermon Rev’d Nate begins by exploring how we can grow in our discipleship by responding to Jesus invitation to come to him.
Key Points:
- Jesus invites us to walk with him and experience life in all its fullness
- Through distraction, the allure of the pervasive culture or our own forgetfulness, we can grow numb to the voice of Jesus inviting us to walk with him.
- Culture is formed from the things we worship
- “How do you know where and what you worship? It’s easy. You simply follow the trail of your time, your affection, your energy, your money and your allegiance. At the end of that trail you’ll find a throne; whatever, or whoever, is one that throne is what’s of the highest value to you. On that throne is what you worship.” — Louie Giglio
- God knows that in right worship we come alive - when we worship idols it leads us on a path of destruction.
- God’s heart breaks when we exchange the fullness of life on offer to us for worthless counterfeits.
- St Augustine describes sin as ‘Life turned in on itself’ - a life turned towards one’s own wants, longings and desires.
- We can not lead others to Jesus if we ourselves are blinded by our own sin - The terrible thing about sin is that it makes us blind to our own blindness (C.S Lewis).
- As we look to become more like Jesus we must throw off the idols so that we can respond daily to his invitation to walk in relationship with him.
- Recognise, Repent, Replace
- Recognise -- Ask God to open our eyes to the things we are blind to in our own lives.
- Repent -- Humble ourselves, admit our faults & seek God’s grace & forgiveness.
- Replace -- Plant the love of Christ in the soil of our hearts, and like a seed, water nurture it and let is sprout and flourish.
