Episode 388: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: Sinister Six - LV: The First Omen (2024))

Time to don our habits once again in this episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake’s Spooktoberfest 2026 Sinister Six. Picture it, 1971, Rome. We find ourselves  following a novitiate nun, Margaret as she prepares herself to give herself to God. When things begin to turn dark at the Vizzardeli Orphanage, it is clear an evil Catholic conspiracy has been laid in place for far longer than any of us. Laughing manic nuns, children crying in shadowy corners and horrific visions of terrible births. Something seems familiar. We know where this story is going and yet we are destined to not stop it. We do it all for you eager listeners! This is 2024’s The First Omen. Episode 387: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: Hellraiser (1987)

Before the season turns sinister, it’s time for Spooktoberfest to enter its final configuration. 1987’s Hellraiser begins with the hedonistic Frank Cotton purchasing a puzzle box said to unlock otherworldly pleasures. Instead, the box summons the Cenobites—demonic, sadomasochistic “priests” from another dimension—who claim Frank as their latest torture victim. Unaware of his brother’s fate, Larry Cotton moves his family into Frank’s abandoned home in an attempt to repair his marriage. Julia, Larry’s emotionally distant second wife, soon discovers that Frank has been reanimated in the attic. As it turns out, Frank and Julia had an affair before she married Larry, and she never stopped loving her wayward brother-in-law. Frank, who managed to return only because the Cenobites left his still-beating heart behind, must absorb more blood to be made whole again. Julia agrees to bring him the victims he needs so they can finally run away together. Standing in their way is Larry’s daughter, Kirsty, who must make a deadly bargain with the Cenobites to stop her wicked uncle and stepmother. Today’s episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake will impart a vital lesson to listeners: solving an ancient puzzle box doesn’t always make you a pro at card games. Episode 386: AMNAM Spooktacluar 2026: Rosemary's Baby (1968)

On this week's episode of Anime Was (Not) A Mistake's Spooktoberfest 2026 we head to a place far worse than Hell, at least for Dan Ryan. Your two little podcasting devils are headed to The Big Apple and moving into The Bramford in 1968's Rosemary's Baby. Midwestern charm incarnate; Rosemary Woodhouse seemingly has it all. A handsome (if not bordering on douchebag ) actor of a husband, a lavish/stylish metropolitan apartment, and the inklings of a child, near and dear, on the way. However, not all is highballs and domestic bliss in this neck of NYC. For one, the nosiest of neighbors with the Castevets, really bend Rosemary's charm to the breaking point. Plus, unexplained phenomena, weird chanting,  and some really striking nightmares plague this poor housewife wherever she goes. When the baby is finally on the way, this seems to be anything but the blissful life a mother craves. Instead, there is something,  sharp, sinister, and smelling of Tannis Root that plagues this demented cityscape. All of them witches and a few of them weebs...
