Anomalous Black Women

About Anomalous Black Women

Anomalous Black Women is a podcast where truth lives out loud. Hosted by Bina Banks and Dr. Tonya Johnson, it centers on raw, unfiltered conversations about identity, healing, resilience, rest, and the realities of being a Black woman in a world that often misunderstands us. This is a space for women who refuse to shrink or perform strength at the cost of their peace. If you think differently, move differently, and live out loud, you’re not alone. You’re anomalous.

Episode 66: Slow the Hell Down: Rest, Boundaries, and Choosing You

In this powerful episode of Anomalous Black Women, Bina and Dr. TJ sit down with Chanel B. Brooks, founder of the Soft Life Movement and author of If You Need to Slow the Hell Down was a Person. Together, they unpack the emotional weight Black women have been conditioned to carry and the hidden cost of always being “the strong one.” From survival mode and burnout to boundaries, rest, femininity, guilt, and self-worth, this conversation goes far beyond social media’s version of the “soft life.” Chanel opens up about divorce, single motherhood, workplace pressure, and the personal awakening that inspired her D.A.M.N. Method, a framework centered on digesting emotions, accepting truth, moving intentionally, and taking note of your healing journey. This episode is for every Black woman who’s exhausted from carrying everything, proving herself, and pouring into everyone else first. If you’ve ever struggled to rest without guilt, say no without explaining yourself, or choose yourself unapologetically… this conversation is for you. Connect with Chanel B. Episode 64: Rest Is the Revolution: Unapologetic Healing, Boundaries & Becoming

Anomalous Black Women Podcast – Season Finale 2025 In this powerful season finale of Anomalous Black Women, host Bina Banks & Dr. Tonya Johnson close out Melanin, Magic & Manifestation: Healing Forward, Resilience & Joy with a soul-deep conversation about rest, boundaries, and becoming whole again. Joined by Chisa Marie, retired U.S. Air Force veteran, certified health and life coach, and embodiment of unapologetic living, this episode explores what happens when Black women stop performing strength and start choosing themselves. Together, they unpack: • The emotional cost of always being “the strong one” • Why rest is not laziness; it’s resistance • Releasing generational survival patterns • Learning to sit with yourself without fear • Navigating motherhood, co-parenting, and self-trust • Protecting your peace without guilt • Healing without explaining yourself This conversation is honest, tender, funny, and deeply affirming. It reminds us that we don’t have to earn rest, justify boundaries, or apologize for choosing peace. Healing doesn’t have to be loud; it can be soft, slow, and sacred. If you’ve ever felt exhausted from carrying too much, holding it together for everyone else, or silencing your own needs, this episode is your permission slip to exhale. ✨ Rest is not the reward. ✨ Rest is the revolution.
