The Architecture of Scarcity
To wrap-up the mini-series, Pedro sits down with Daniela Gusman and Luca Astorri, co-founders of Rise International, to reflect on their work with rural African communities. They discuss how RISE uses architecture and development initiatives to create sustainable opportunities in education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment, sharing insights into designing in resource-scarce and challenging environments.

Another Brick In The Wall TEASER S2
Season 02.
Building on the ethos and themes explored in Season 1 of “Another Brick in the Wall”, Radio Antecamara’s podcast on architecture, construction, and materials, Season 2 turns its focus to the unique challenges architects face when working in remote and demanding locations.
This season is structured as a mini-series, exploring four compelling projects: the construction of a home in the vast expanse of the Great Karoo; the restoration of Scott’s historic cabin in Antarctica; the development of a housing complex deep within the Philippine jungle; and the design and construction challenges posed by working in resource-scarce environments in Lesotho. Each episode delves into the practical, technical, and creative solutions required to bring architectural visions to life in extraordinary contexts.

Another Brick In The Wall #9
Concrete – For the ninth episode of Another Brick in the Wall, Pedro speaks with guest Andrea Deplazes, architect, professor at ETH Zürich, and co-founder of Bearth & Deplazes Architects.
With a long-standing academic and professional career focused on the relationship between design and construction, Andrea Deplazes brings a deep understanding of concrete as a material — from its structural and expressive potential to its role in contemporary architecture and teaching.
This interview reflects on concrete not only as a construction material, but as a design tool, exploring its performance, longevity, and capacity to shape more thoughtful and sustainable buildings.
