The Anti-Myelin Society Podcast features women of color from the Black and Latino communities who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The hosts, Jojo, Taty, and Brika (introduced as new additional co-host in season II) share their experiences of navigating motherhood and building their careers, and health challenges while living with MS. In their discussions, they address various topics, including mental health, symptoms, and more.
Dating is hard for anyone. With multiple sclerosis, it can bring extra questions: Will they accept me? Will they see me as a burden? What if my symptoms change? In this episode, Jojo is joined by co-host Tati and Shabrika. They talk about dating with MS, with plenty of honesty, dark humor and sound effects.
In this episode:
Moments of gratitude: a time each of us felt proud of ourselves in dating
Why MS is something you have, not who you are, and where the hosts disagree on that line
When to tell someone about your diagnosis: right away, or once trust is built
Fear of rejection, and the "don't regret the people who run away" advice
Communicating invisible symptoms like fatigue, brain fog and "not enough spoons"
Planning around unpredictable energy, with practical date ideas
Intimacy and relationships: Jojo shares something new about how MS has affected her
Building confidence, setting standards, and avoiding stress that makes you sicker
Five takeaways for anyone with MS who is thinking about dating
Wherever you are in your journey, you're not alone. Meaningful relationships are absolutely possible with MS.

Smoldering MS
Smoldering MS can continue beneath the surface, even when there are no obvious relapses or new lesions on an MRI. Jojo and Shabrika unpack what this lesser-known aspect of multiple sclerosis may mean for people whose symptoms keep changing, despite scans that appear stable. They explain smoldering, or chronic active, lesions; discuss progression independent of relapse activity (PIRA); and explore why symptoms don’t always line up neatly with MRI results. Drawing on their own experiences with MS, they talk about cognitive changes, fatigue, mobility challenges, feeling misunderstood, and the importance of advocating for yourself when you know something isn’t right. This candid conversation offers information, empathy, and a reminder that living with MS can look different for everyone. It’s not medical advice, but it may help you find new questions to bring to your healthcare team. In this episode:
What smoldering MS and chronic active lesions are
How MS may progress without an obvious relapse
Why a stable MRI doesn’t always reflect the full experience of symptoms
How cognitive changes and other invisible symptoms affect daily life
Why self-advocacy matters when navigating MS care

Taty, Brika, and Jojo discuss ABLE savings accounts and how they may help people with disabilities protect their savings while receiving benefits. They also share honest stories about the financial challenges of living with MS, including medical bills, prescriptions, copays, and the everyday cost of staying healthy. Along the way, they bring plenty of humor, personal insight, and relatable conversations about chronic illness and financial survival.
