Replay - Building Startups from Scratch: An ISP Journey
How does early hands-on curiosity turn into building and scaling digital infrastructure? In this episode of The Anycast, we trace the journey from troubleshooting early Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as a high schooler to founding and leading startups that drive modern network automation.
We dig into the practical realities of infrastructure engineering, scaling high-impact technical teams, tapping into developer talent within emerging markets, and navigating the operational hurdles of building sustainable tech ventures in an evolving digital landscape.
Key Discussion Points
ISP Foundations to Startup Scale: Translating early hands-on routing and ISP problem-solving into scalable network automation platforms.
Engineering Career Velocity: Why real-time documentation, practical lab experimentation, and active mentorship accelerate technical mastery faster than credentials alone.
Talent Strategy in Emerging Markets: Developing global engineering pipelines through targeted technical education, localized infrastructure investment, and long-term retention.
Architecting for Resilience: The technical and business trade-offs required when building foundational infrastructure startups that challenge legacy networking models.

Replay: Bonus - Why AI is Revolutionizing Podcasting Today 🤖
This is a replay of a popular episode.
Ever wondered how podcasting went from a niche technical hobby to a global industry? In this episode, we sit down with industry veterans to discuss two decades of podcasting history and explore where the medium is headed in the age of AI. 🎙️
We take a trip down memory lane to the early 2000s when RSS feeds and iPod synchronization were the only ways to listen. From the transition of TechTV to the founding of the TWiT network, you will learn how the landscape has shifted from a handful of creators to a crowded market of millions. 📱
The conversation covers why authenticity remains the most important factor for success today. Instead of chasing viral fame, we discuss the value of serving a small, dedicated audience and how a podcast can be a powerful business tool even with a few hundred listeners. Whether you are a creator looking to monetize or a brand trying to understand the shift from B2C to B2B advertising, these insights provide a roadmap for the modern audio landscape. 📈
We also dive deep into the role of artificial intelligence. Discover how AI is not replacing creators but rather empowering them to handle editing, show notes, and social media clips more efficiently. The future of podcasting belongs to those who use these tools to enhance their human connection and maintain the authenticity that listeners crave. 🤖

Evaluate Your CDN by Its Cache Misses
Serving a cached file over a well-connected edge is not the same challenge as fetching fresh content from origin. The discussion argues that CDN evaluation often underweights this distinction, even though cache misses can contribute to rebuffering and bitrate issues. Live video makes that origin-to-edge path especially important because there is little margin for error.
The proposed approach starts with placing CDN ingest as close to the customer’s origin as possible, with a stated target of one to two milliseconds where achievable. From there, multi-hop relays shorten transport feedback loops, while parallel fetches let the fastest request win. The stakes extend beyond an individual request: a slow origin fetch can affect everyone depending on that content at an edge.
Key Topics
Cache-miss performance as a CDN evaluation criterion
Streaming quality and live delivery’s limited margin for error
Origin-adjacent ingest and TCP responsibility
Multi-hop relays and shorter feedback loops
Parallel origin fetches, or racing
The shared impact of a slow fetch at an edge

02:49 — Placing CDN ingest close to the origin
04:27 — Multi-hop relays and transport feedback
05:46 — How one origin fetch affects an entire edge
Next Steps
When comparing CDNs, include origin-to-edge fetch performance alongside cached delivery, especially for live video with little margin for delay
Discuss with your CDN provider whether ingest can move closer to your origin through co-location, adjacent infrastructure or connectivity across cloud VPCs
