Are Bonuses Received After Separation Subject to Equalization?
Can a bonus received after separation still be subject to equalization?
Not necessarily, but it’s also not automatically excluded just because it was paid after separation.
In this episode, we discuss what can matter, including whether the bonus was contractual or discretionary, when the conditions were satisfied, and how the bonus may be treated for property and support purposes.

Episode 88: Stock Options and Divorce in Ontario
Stock options in a divorce aren’t as straightforward as people think.
In Ontario, even unvested stock options can be considered property and that can significantly impact how assets are divided.
What matters isn’t when they vest… it’s their value at the date of separation.
And if you get this wrong?
It could cost you far more than you expect.
When equity compensation is involved, strategy isn’t optional it’s essential.
