Maria Vazquez of the Aravaipa Racing Team on Ultra Distance Cycling
Meet Maria Vazquez of the Aravaipa Racing Team. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Maria has been an athlete since she was in elementary school. A runner for most of her life, her cycling career began as a spinning instructor. Passionate and with a constant smile on her face, she has conquered numerous challenging races. Maria was able to balance a busy life as a single mom of 3 boys with 4 jobs and training/racing. Her life has been full of challenges and her training and races have always been her ´therapy´. She is proud of setting an example for her 3 boys and now she thrives by helping others find balance between their personal life, job and training.
After completing Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP), and while at a football game from one of her boys, Maria got a call that changed her life forever. She was invited to be part of the Reve 2012 Tour de France Women's Project. A 6 person, all female team that completed all 21 stages from the Tour de France a day before the pros in 2012. After that experience, Maria realized she could inspire others to believe in themselves and achieve their goals so she became a cycling coach. In over 10 years she has successfully completed running, triathlon and cycling races with only a single DNF.
