Around the Table With the AOTR is a biweekly commentary series featuring Authors of the Resistance Founders, Sai Marie Johnson and Beverly L. Anderson, discussing important intersectional topics relevant to activism, advocacy, and being an author.
S2 E6: Emotional Intelligence, Being Trauma Informed and Advocacy for Sexual Assault Survivors
What does true community protection, survivor advocacy, and standing up for our collective safety actually look like?
It starts long before a crisis, and Sai Marie Johnson and Beverly L. Anderson make the case for why our local networks, victim support spaces, and community solidarity need to stay locked in now—not after toxic behaviors and fraternal systems normalize the unthinkable.
In this powerful, two-host conversation, Sai and Bev unpack the ongoing wave of high-profile sexual assault cases, breaking down the dangerous implications of rigid patriarchal structures that cut men down at the knees when it comes to emotional intelligence and regulation. Together, they confront the reality of horizontal hostility, addressing how allowing victims to engage in abusive, sexist, or demeaning behaviors toward one another only perpetuates harm and distracts from the root problem.
We explore the reality behind systemic power dynamics, the necessity of firm boundaries within activist spaces, and why we refuse to let internal noise divide us from protecting our communities and holding the real structures of power accountable.
To learn more about navigating systemic change and community advocacy as we move forward, keep tuning in to Around the Table with the AOTR.
