Leggendo la meravigliosa vita di S. Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori (1696-1787), leggendo i suoi scritti, le sue poesie e le sue ispiratissime canzoncine, pubblicate soltanto nel 1932 da Antonio di Coste, precisamente come contributo al II centenario della Congregazione dei Redentoristi dallo stesso S. Alfonso fondata, mi è venuta l’idea di ritoccare il famoso detto spagnolo: del musicista, del poeta e del santo, sant’Alfonso ne aveva tanto.

164 - Fede e Chiesa in Dante (Parte II)
Cosa sia il peccato e quale sia la reale condizione del peccatore è ben chiarito nei primissimi versi della Divina Commedia, già in Inferno I 2-3: «Mi ritrovai per una selva oscura, ché la diritta via era smarrita». Il peccato, dunque, «è un deviare, un uscire dalla retta via, la via del bene – chiarisce Galletto – abbandonata questa e intrapresa quella tortuosa del male (il peccato), l’uomo si ritrova in una selva oscura, una selva selvaggia e aspra e forte (v. 5), immagine dello stato di perdizione e di smarrimento conseguente al peccato. Il dolore, indispensabile per ottenere il perdono, è il buon dolor ch’a Dio ne rimarita, come Dante afferma in Purgatorio XXIII 81, che ristabilisce le nozze delle nostre anime con Dio, riconciliandoci con Lui».
