About ArTEEtude. West Cork´s deep ocean of the creative mind Podcast by Detlef Schlich.

ARTEETUDE is a West Cork–based podcast by visual artist Detlef Schlich, exploring the shifting intersections of art, culture, technology and the creative mind. Together with Sophia, his AI co-host, Detlef enters a conversational space where art history meets neuroscience, shamanic ritual encounters digital culture, and human imagination confronts artificial intelligence. Reflective, humorous and sometimes deeply personal, each episode investigates the forces shaping creativity, perception and contemporary life. Drawing on his practice in performance, photography, painting, sound, installation, film and media archaeology, Detlef treats the podcast not simply as a format, but as an artistic space in its own right — a place for philosophical inquiry, cultural critique, guest conversations, listener questions and poetic speculation. In a world driven by speed, distraction and surface-level connection, ARTEETUDE slows things down. It looks beneath the noise and asks: What does it mean to create today? How do technology and consciousness transform one another? What happens to spirituality in an increasingly digital culture? And where can the human soul still find resonance? Whether you are an artist, a thinker, a technologist or simply curious about the mysteries of creativity, ARTEETUDE invites you into a conversation where art, mind, body and machine meet.

#ArTEEtude 357 – Schlich explores personal memories of West Cork, the traces artists leave behind in landscapes, the challenges facing small island communities, and the development of The Cape Clear Sessions.

ArTEEtude 357 – The Cape Clear Sessions An Atlantic Crossing, Artistic Experiments & the Layers of Island Life Three heavy bags, a guitar, two kilos of chicken, and a stormy crossing of the Atlantic. In this special episode of ArTEEtude, Detlef Schlich takes listeners to Cape Clear Island, off the coast of West Cork, Ireland, for an intimate journey into the relationship between landscape, memory, artistic research, and multilayerism. What begins as a challenging journey becomes a creative exploration of an island's history, its people, and its extraordinary Atlantic environment. From dramatic moments aboard the ferry to a temporary studio equipped with paintbrushes, recording equipment, a wood-burning stove, and an improvised microphone stand made from a coffee thermos, Detlef reflects on how unpredictable circumstances can become part of the artistic process. The episode explores personal memories of West Cork, the traces artists leave behind in landscapes, the challenges facing small island communities, and the development of The Cape Clear Sessions. Featuring music by Los Inorgánicos. Coming next week: The autobiographical journey continues in Ballydehob, 2008 — an apartment with an outside metal staircase, a new beginning, and an unexpected encounter with blackmail. ArTEEtude is an independent, non-profit podcast dedicated to art, music, philosophy, and multilayerism. Follow, listen, share, and join the creative conversation. The future is just a podcast away. Your Detlef. About Detlef Schlich Detlef Schlich is a rock musician, podcaster, visual artist, filmmaker, ritual designer, and media archaeologist based in West Cork, Ireland. His artistic practice moves between performance, photography, painting, sound, installation, film, music, podcasting, and digital image-making. Across these fields, Schlich reflects on the human condition, the relationship between ritual and technology, and the changing role of the artist in digital culture. As a media archaeologist, he explores how media shape perception, memory, culture, politics, and artistic expression. His work often uses the figure of the digital shaman as an alter ego — a method for navigating the space between ancient ritual structures, contemporary media, and technological transformation. Research & Artistic Method Detlef Schlich’s artistic research is rooted in his essay Shamanism, Art and Digital Culture: Cause and Effect, which investigates the relationship between ritual, artistic transformation, media, and digital culture. #ArTEEtude 356 – Schlich and his AI Co Host Sophia explores the transition from Lackavaun to Ballydehob which was not simply a geographical relocation. It was "The Art of Beginning Again". The episode concludes with an original composition by Los Inorgánicos, “A Home on Church Road,” translating this autobiographical experience into music.

What happens when the house you built is no longer the place where you belong? For six episodes, Detlef Schlich has been telling the story of Lackavaun — a house, a landscape, and a dream of creating a future in West Cork. But perhaps the more important story was never about the building itself. It was about the person who built it, and what happened when he finally walked away. In this deeply personal chapter of his autobiographical journey, Detlef moves from Lackavaun towards a new beginning in Ballydehob. Through temporary accommodation, small opportunities, and eventually a little home on Church Road, he begins to rediscover something that had become increasingly precious: independence. An outside staircase. Breakfast overlooking the mountains of Cork and Kerry. A Mexican lizard table carried all the way from Germany. Ordinary objects and moments become fragments of a new personal geography. Together with Sophia, Detlef reflects on freedom, solitude, belonging, and the subtle difference between being welcomed into a community and truly feeling part of it. Inspired by the fragmentary approach to history associated with Walter Benjamin, this episode asks whether rebuilding a life might itself be understood as an artistic practice. You cannot always take your home with you. But you can carry the possibility of creating another one. The episode closes with a new original song by Los Inorgánicos, written especially for this story: “A Home on Church Road.” An independent journey through art, memory, music, and the complicated beauty of being human. #ArTEEtude 355 — Detlef Schlich continues his autobiographical Lackavaun story. His partner has returned to Cologne. The house is unfinished, the building money is almost gone, and Detlef is left alone in West Cork with one certainty: he will not return to Germany. Featuring a new song by Los Inorgánicos — “The Land That Helped Me.”

What happens when the future you spent years building suddenly disappears? In ArTEEtude 355 — The Land That Held Me, Detlef Schlich continues his autobiographical Lackavaun story. His partner has returned to Cologne. The house is unfinished, the building money is almost gone, and Detlef is left alone in West Cork with one certainty: he will not return to Germany. For five months, life becomes surprisingly elemental. He rides his moped to work with Jimmy, a former fisherman turned organic farmer. He repairs fences overlooking the Atlantic, weeds seemingly endless rows of carrots and spinach, eats breakfast directly from the fields and spends long evenings beside the lake he created at Lackavaun, watching dragonflies above the water. Slowly, another life begins to emerge. Local web-design clients appear. Independence becomes possible. Then his partner returns. And Lackavaun changes again. An episode about separation, physical work, solitude, nature and the strange ways we sometimes recover our ability to move forward. Featuring a new song by Los Inorgánicos — “The Land That Helped Me.” ArTEEtude is an independent, non-profit podcast.
