<p>Picasso nedokázal opustiť Paríž a svoje ateliéry ani počas I. a II. svetovej vojny. Počas prvej tvoril kulisy pre ruský baletný súbor a oženil sa s baletkou Olgou Khokhlovou. <p>Po príchode do Paríža sa Picasso ocitol v mori maliarskej konkurencie a prvé roky páplil vlastné maľby, aby sa v zime mohol ohriať. Nedostatok financií a záujmu o jeho tvorbu ho však neodradili.
