Life has gotten a little louder than expected.
I recently stepped into a new professional role that requires more of my attention right now, and it’s brought me face-to-face with an old pattern: when work gets demanding, I tend to let it consume everything else.
This time, I’m choosing differently.
For the next couple of weeks, I’m giving myself some breathing room from our regular full-length episodes—not because Ascended Warrior matters less, but because it matters too much to turn it into one more thing I have to push through.
I’m still here. The Shorts, conversations, and insights will continue, and full episodes will return soon.
Maybe this is part of the practice too: learning not to abandon what matters when life gets loud.

Do Racial Stories Control How We Meet Each Other?
When two strangers meet, are they really meeting for the first time?
Or are generations of stories meeting with them?
In this episode of Ascended Warrior, Chris Alyssia explores theracial stories human beings inherit long before we're conscious enough to question them—and what happens when those stories enter our relationships, judgments, attraction, institutions, and everyday interactions.
The episode begins with a story Chris has carried since high school: her mixed-race best friend being approached by two women at church and told that her parents' interracial marriage violated God's plan.
The law had changed decades earlier.
But the story hadn't.
From there, we examine the space between overt racial hatred and something much quieter: racial conditioning.
What does “our own people” mean?
Why does changing the race of a fictional character sometimes change how we experience the character?
Would you interpret the same behavior differently if the personperforming it belonged to another race?
And what happens when two people enter an interaction already expecting something from each other?
This isn't an episode asking:
Am I racist?
It's asking:
What am I carrying?
Because the stories we inherit can influence what we expect.
What we expect can influence how we behave. And our behavior can help create outcomes that seem to confirm the story we started with.
The goal isn't guilt.
It's awareness.
Because once we see the story, we get to choose whether we still believe it.

After Slavery: What Happened Next?
We know slavery ended.
But what happened the day after? And the generation after that?
Season 5 of Ascended Warrior begins by pulling back the veil onsomething we often experience without realizing it: the world we inherited.
For me, that became personal during a trip to Hampton, Virginia.
I knew Hampton's modern reputation. What she didn't know was the history underneath it—the people who escaped slavery and gathered around Fort Monroe, the Great Contraband Camp, the communities they created, and the extraordinary role education played as people attempted to build lives afterbondage.
The more I learned, the more the same streets began to look different.
Nothing about Hampton had changed.
What changed was what I could see.
From there, this episode asks a much larger question.
Slavery wasn't simply a relationship between an enslaved person and an owner. Economies, laws, labor systems, education, geography, institutions and generations of beliefs about race grew around it.
When legal ownership disappeared, what happened to everything surrounding it?
And what happens when we inherit the outcomes of history without understanding the history that produced them?
This isn't a conversation about inherited guilt.
It's an invitation to become curious about inherited conclusions.
Because becoming conscious isn't about having the perfect opinions.
I
t's about becoming willing to see what you couldn't see before and deciding consciously what you carry forward.
