Colorado’s Budget Crisis Deepens | Aspen News
Colorado’s budget is in deep trouble, with economists now predicting a $1.6 billion deficit — a massive swing from earlier forecasts. The state’s biggest headache? Medicaid, whose costs have skyrocketed 92% despite declining enrollment, fueled by surging demand for long-term and behavioral health care. With Medicaid spending doubling the state’s overall budget growth, officials warn other vital services could be slashed unless action is taken — and new federal restrictions will make funding even harder. Meanwhile, the economy is growing slowly, with fewer jobs and rising loan delinquencies across income levels, as inflation bites even wealthier households. The governor’s office flags a 40% chance of recession, citing global conflicts, high gas prices, trade wars, and an AI bubble as looming threats. Colorado’s financial future hangs in the balance.

Measles Resurfaces in Colorado | Aspen News
Measles is roaring back in Colorado after an unvaccinated traveler sparked a new outbreak, hitting Union Station and a Steamboat Springs hotel—just weeks after another international case spread through Denver’s Gem Show and Boulder. With symptoms like fever, cough, and a signature rash, experts urge exposed folks to contact their doctor first to avoid spreading it. While Colorado’s resident cases remain low, the state saw its second-highest measles tally since 1993—and nationwide, declining vaccination rates are putting the U.S.’s “eliminated” status at risk, fueled by misinformation and anti-vaccine sentiment.
