Asthma with Experts : Hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) The ‘Asthma with Experts’ podcast – the place where clinical experts share their personal approaches to management of asthma. features discussions with expert clinicians. The podcast is hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA). It is a resource for doctors and health care professionals in primary care and adult and paediatric doctors who are not respiratory specialists. Asthma is a serious global health problem, affecting approximately 300 million people around the world, and causing around 1,000 deaths per day. Most of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, and most of them are preventable. Asthma interferes with people’s work, education and family life, especially when children have asthma. Asthma is becoming more prevalent in many economically developing countries, and the cost of asthma treatment for healthcare systems, communities and individuals is increasing. The podcast ‘Asthma for Experts’ which is hosted by GINA (www.ginasthma.org) is intended for primary care doctors and other health care professionals, and also for adult and paediatric general medical specialists in secondary care. The main aim is to increase awareness of asthma and provide expert views on evidence based practice for clinicians.    This episode (2026 (8)) of 'Asthma with Experts' on World Asthma Day 2026 hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), and features a discussion with Professor Francine Ducharme, University of Montreal, Canada. She is a respiratory paediatrician, and a member of the GINA Science Committee Prof Ducharme shares her thoughts about the current problems faced by children who have asthma. She emphasises the need to take every opportunity to diagnose reversible airflow obstruction - a key feature of asthma, ideally with spirometry. The best opportunity is when a child presents with an acute exacerbation/ attack. She shared some information about the new flow charts in GINA 2026 on managing acute asthma exacerbations in primary care and the ED. Two other topics inclue accurate recording of the diagnosis and the latest evidence for using anti-inflammatory reliever therapy (AIR) in 6-11 year olds.    2026 (8) Discussion with Prof Guy Brusselle

   This This episode (2026 (8)) of 'Asthma with Experts' on World Asthma Day 2026 is hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), and features a discussion with Professor Guy Brusselle, Chairman of the GINA Board of Directors on his thoughts about asthma. Prof Brusselle shares his thoughts about the current problems faced by adults who have asthma. Key issues include i) getting the diagnosis right as early as possible, and ii) the use of a single inhaler containing an inhaled corticosteroid and a quick acting, long acting bronchodilator (formoterol) for relief of symptoms as well as maintenance therapy. In this way the inflammation caused by asthma is dealt with at the same time as relieving symptoms. He also mentioned the new changes in GINA 2026 in managing severe asthma and emphasised the new changes in severe asthma management, in addition to checking biomarkers, to identify and manage co-morbid conditions such as rhinosinusitis , nasal polyposis,atopic dermatitis and eosinophylic oesophagitis.    Possible Primary Prevention of Asthma

   This episode of 'Asthma with Experts' which is hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), features a discussion with Professor Bart Lambrecht of Ghent University Belgium, about possible primary prevention of asthma. In their large Danish population based study, (https://bit.ly/3Mc9lWO (https://bit.ly/3Mc9lWO)) they concluded that “a respiratory syncitial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis hospitalization in the first 6 months of life on its own conferred a threefold increased cumulative risk of an asthma diagnosis...and the risk was doubled for those without an RSV hospitalization who were born to an asthmatic mother...or father.” Interestingly after an RSV infection the risk of subsequent asthma development in these children is increased irrespective of whether the parent(s) have asthma or allergy. Together with evidence from his research in mouse models, Prof Lambrecht shares his ideas and conclusions on possibly preventing asthma from developing in children for example through RSV immunisation in late pregnancy.    Difficult -to-Treat and Severe Asthma
