For the first time since 1924, this massive event is taking over the city of Basel, Switzerland, under the brilliant motto 'Stadt und Land mitenand', bringing city life and country tradition together.

Over the duration of the festival, Basel is going to completely transform. We are talking about 12,000 active performers descending on the city. From master yodellers and alphorn players to highly skilled traditional flag-wavers. Plus, over 200,000 visitors are expected to flood the streets to take in the magic. Here is a quick snapshot of what you need to know if you are tuning in or heading out:

Over 1,000 judged choir and solo yodelling performances will be taking place inside ten beautiful churches and concert halls across Grossbasel.

The party officially starts on Friday. 19th June, at noon when the custom-built 'Yodeller Village' opens up. Saturday features non-stop music and a live national broadcast of Potzmusig. And Sunday wraps up with a massive, colorful Grand Festival Parade cutting through the city at 2:00 PM.

The best part? Most of the street festivities and the Yodeller Village are completely free to explore! If you want to head indoors to watch the official jury competitions, you just need to grab a festival badge.

Public transport is highly recommended, so check out SBB Railway for special event trains. Stay out late, for spontaneous, informal yodelling sessions break out along the historic alleys of Basel's Old Town.

For all the official details, jury timetables, and travel tips, head over to jodlerfestbasel.ch

About Audio Story With Ajita:

Audio Story With Ajita is an English-language podcast that delivers news from Switzerland. Fighting Invisible Poverty in Switzerland with Claudio Borio from Winterhilfe

How Winterhilfe Basel Supports Families and the Working Poor

This episode explores "invisible" poverty in Switzerland through a conversation with Claudia Burio, a board member of Winterhilfe Basel, a charity founded in 1936 to provide winter relief and now offering year-round, targeted support to people just above the poverty line. Winterhilfe helps Swiss residents by paying urgent health and housing bills, providing in-kind aid such as clothing packages, and supporting children's schooling and meaningful leisure activities, including a special fund inspired by the Swiss "Gotti" concept. The Basel chapter operates with a six-member board, a small staff and volunteers, and relies heavily on donations, distributing most of its annual income directly as assistance while facing growing fundraising challenges. The discussion covers poverty thresholds, debt risks, how to seek help, and how to support Winterhilfe through donations, awareness, and potential volunteering.

The GoodNews Letter 💕

If your newsfeed feels a bit dark lately, you're not alone.
