There are about 40,000 women behind bars in Brazil, a country that has the third largest prison population in the world. The Covid-19 pandemic added more challenges for women in prison and egresses, many struggling with unemployment and poverty. To support women, and give them a better start after prison, the Igarapé Institute created the “Partners of Liberty” project, with the support from the Australian government. - Existem hoje cerca de 40 mil mulheres presas no Brasil, país que possui a terceira maior população carcerária do mundo. Os desafios para a vida das presas e egressas da prisão foram elevados a um novo patamar com a chegada do coronavírus. Para auxiliar essas mulheres dentro e fora dos muros, o Instituto Igarapé criou o projeto “Sócios da Liberdade”, que recebeu apoio do governo australiano. Thousands of desperate Venezuelans are crossing the country’s northern border to Brazil to escape their homeland’s economic collapse and political unrest. Nearly 5,000 members of Venezuela's indigenous communities are sheltered in Brazil, according to the United Nations Agency for Refugees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cáritas Brasil has provided Warao and Criollos indigenous communities with food and hygiene items to help them cope with the impact of the pandemic in their lives. The organisation has received humanitarian support from two countries: Australia and Germany. - Autoridades brasileiras estimam que 260 mil venezuelanos vivem atualmente no país. Muitos são integrantes das comunidades indígenas da etnia Warao e Criollo. Resultado de uma ‘migração forçada’, eles deixaram para trás seu país, sua família, e vêm em busca de melhores condições de vida, muitos falam apenas o dialeto. Em tempos de Covid, a situação se agravou e para ajudá-los a Cáritas Brasileira Regional Norte II criou o projeto ‘Pontes da Solidariedade’ em Belém, no Pará. O projeto beneficiou mais de 180 famílias e conta com a ajuda financeira do governo australiano. How to assist in the sustainable development of the Amazon and at the same time protect the largest forest in the world? The Amazon 4.0 Project aims to address this difficult question. Designed and developed by Brazilian scientists, the ‘Creative Lab’, is a mobile unit with the latest technology that can be transported to the heart of the forest. It will work as a training hub for local communities to process, package, and aggregate value to their own produce. The Australian government is supporting the innovative project that can be adapted to any industry. - Como auxiliar no desenvolvimento sustentável da Amazônia e ao mesmo tempo proteger a maior floresta do mundo? O Projeto Amazônia 4.0, que conta com o apoio da Austrália, tenta responder a essa difícil questão. Pensado e desenvolvido por cientistas brasileiros, o ‘Laboratório Criativo da Amazônia’, é uma unidade móvel com equipamentos de última tecnologia que pode ser transportado para o coração da floresta. O objetivo é capacitar as comunidades rurais que vivem do extrativismo do cupuaçu/cacau, ou açaí, a aprenderem a produzir produtos mais valiosos como chocolate e suco.
