[…] It's a terrible way to die. It's a monster of a death, as Ron Blackshaw, the detective senior sergeant from the homicide squad, told me. That's how she was found. How does strychnine poisoning work? As in, is it a one-off? Is it a really powerful poison that one time will kill you? Or is it something that a would-be poisoner would have to be giving you over a period of time and has cumulative effects? It works in a minute amount and very quickly. So you only need to take it once and you're almost guaranteed to die. It's very bitter to taste. So if it's spread on a piece of toast, you're likely to immediately want to spit it out. […]
