#32: Ronit Plank — Changing Through Story & Exploring Memoir
This week on Author Up, we’re joined by Ronit Plank, award-winning author, essayist, editor, writing instructor, and creator of the celebrated podcast Let’s Talk Memoir.
Ronit Plank (https://substack.com/profile/42641453-ronit-plank)’s work has appeared in The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and numerous literary publications. She’s the author of the memoir When She Comes Back and the award-winning story collection Home Is a Made-Up Place. Since launching Let’s Talk Memoir in 2022, she’s brought hundreds of writers into thoughtful conversations about the craft and courage of personal storytelling.
In our conversation, we explore memoir as a creative playground, a place to experiment with structure, perspective, identity, and truth. We discuss the freedom to redefine yourself as a writer, the value of exploring unfamiliar genres, and the importance of finding the right form for the stories you want to tell.
We also turn to podcasting, literary relationships, and the power of interactive creative communities. Drawing on her experience as both an author and interviewer, Ronit offers a generous perspective on what it means to keep learning, connecting, and making room for new possibilities in a writing life.
An engaging conversation for writers, memoirists, podcasters, and anyone still discovering what kind of storyteller they want to become.

Author UP is Quibble Lit’s (https://www.quibblelit.com/) (https://www.quibblelit.com/)podcast of advice for the writing life, with free episodes releasing weekly on Sundays.
Built for writers seeking community and to support the people of indie publishing, each week, host and Quibble Lit EIC Garrett Souliere interviews a literary friend (authors, editors, & publishers) to learn more about their work, their way with words, and to meet the people behind the pages.
Together, we uncover a wide range of wisdom and paths that all support one common cause: to understand and honor the importance of writing in our lives, and to demystify parts of its process.
