Awake Us Now is a body of believers who:
WORSHIP the Triune God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Praise Him with joy and thanksgiving for He is God and He is good;
WALK by faith in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the clear teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and the clear declaration of the Scriptures. Such a daily walk is a far cry from mere religion or "church as usual;"
WITNESS to Jesus Christ our Savior in daily life situations. Take seriously His call to make disciples. Be alert to the opportunities God provides to encourage and mentor others in the Christian life. Utilize the developing technologies to reach a new generation with the timeless Gospel of Christ.
Acts 21:15-16 tells us that Paul and his traveling companions start on their trip to Jerusalem. Some of the disciples traveling with them were from Caesarea, so they brought Paul and the group to the home of Mnason, where they would all stay. Mnason was a man from Cyprus and one of the early disciples.

Cypriot - friend of Barnabas(?)
Early disciple - Pentecost (?) Did Mnason tell the story of the first Pentecost with the Apostle Peter shortly after Jesus' ascension? What an exciting time they must have spent together sharing all about what God the Holy Spirit was doing in and among His people.

GOD ACTS! (Chapter 21) - The Holy Spirit Says
Pastor starts with the question: "What are you listening to?"
GIGO - pronounce gay'goh - stands for Garbage In, Garbage Out. We see this warning as we look at chapter 21. It applied then and applies now.
Acts 21:1-9 tells us of Paul's travels to Caesarea where he and his group stay at Philip's house.
Acts 21:10-15 - Agabus comes to Paul, takes Paul's belt and gives Paul a prophetic word quoting the Holy Spirit saying that Paul will be taken prisoner in Jerusalem by Jews and handed over to the Gentiles. Those listening begged Paul not to go to Jerusalem. But Paul would not be dissuaded and heads to Jerusalem.
What are you hearing?
Then and Now:
Holy Spirit - The Holy Spirit did not say for Paul not to go, The Holy Spirit was warning Paul of what was to come. We too are to listen to the Holy Spirit and do and go through things that are challenging and difficult knowing God is always with us. We are to listen to the Spirit of God as He leads and directs us - that is what believers desire. (See 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22) Do we hear the Holy Spirit?
Acts 21:17-21 Paul and his group arrive in Jerusalem. Gossip is being shared among some of the Jews
Gossip - gossip is mistruths, half-truths, and has no value. (See Proverbs 18:17 and Proverbs 26:20) Do we discern what is gossip? Do we listen to gossip?
Acts 21:22-25 Paul is encouraged to show that the gossip is wrong.
Wisdom - was given for a concrete action Paul could take that would show the rumors and gossip are false. Do we hear wisdom when it is spoken?
Acts 21:26-29 Paul goes to the temple to follow through on the action, but a group of Jews rile things up with not gossip but lies about Paul.
Lies - Spoken outright lies - deliberate and complete lies (See Proverbs 6:16-19 about lies being in the list of things God finds detestable) Do we listen to lies?
Acts 21:30 - Paul is then dragged outside the temple as people come running from all directions and people are trying to kill Paul based on what they were hearing in the lies. But a Roman commander hears of the uproar and when the rioters see him and his soldiers, they stop beating Paul. The commander arrests Paul and binds him in chains and takes him into the barracks when Paul asks the commander, "May I say something to you?" The commander replies, "You speak Greek! Aren't you the Egyptian who started a revolt and led four thousand terrorists out into the wilderness some time ago?" Paul answers that he is a Jew from Tarsus and asks to speak to the people. After receiving permission, Paul stands on the steps and motions to the crowd. When they are silent he speaks to them in Aramaic/Hebrew: "Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense." They became very quiet when Paul addresses them in the language of the Old Testament. They realize Paul is one of them. And now the Greeks (including the commander and soldiers) cannot understand what Paul is saying to the Hebrew speaking Jews.
What are we listening to?
Paul was listening to the Holy Spirit and God had a plan!

Dig Deeper - Acts Chapter 20: "We" Reappears
Pastor digs into the beginning verses of Acts chapter 20.
Acts 20:1 Paul sets out for Macedonia.
Acts 20:2-3 Paul travels to Macedonia speaking words of encouragement to the people and then goes on from there to arrive in Greece where he stays three months.
Acts 20:3b-6 Because some Jews plotted against Paul as he was ready to sail for Syria, he decided to go north back through Macedonia instead. He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derby, Timothy also, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia. The verse go on, (This group) "went on ahead and waited for us at Troas. But we sailed from Philippi after the Festival of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days."
Take note of the use of us and we. In a previous Dig Deeper earlier in the book of Acts we talked about the we/us and how that indicated that the author of the book, Luke, was along on Paul. And now we see that Luke is once again with Paul.
Luke is the author of both Luke and Acts and possibly may have helped write Hebrews.
"WE" - Where was Luke?
Luke is mentioned via "we" in Acts 16:10-17 Troas to Philippi (ca. 50A.D.)
Luke is mentioned again via "we" in Acts 20:5-15 - Philippi to Miletus (ca. 57 A.D.
There were 7 years between Luke using "we." Was he in Philippi the whole time? Was he writing?
Luke is an individual who has left a mark on believers for over 2000 years and yet very little is known about him. He is a man in the shadows that was used mightily by God!
We may not be well known but our lives in Christ have an impact beyond our ability to fully comprehend!!
