[…] It's going to make war, it can make treaties, it can make alliances, it can make, you know, trade agreements and so forth. So that's the conclusion. So we have our premise about human nature and rights, how the king is violating them and the minor premise. And then our conclusion is that we're going to govern ourselves, that we're going to be independent of Great Britain and govern ourselves. What's interesting about the Declaration is that it is not our official rulebook. The Constitution is, of course, our official rulebook. How early on did the Declaration become sort of this conscience? And how did the early presidents and early leaders and early citizens begin to debate over what the Declaration actually meant? […]
