Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Petula Neale as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot-button topics.

Superman is an enduring character. He’s had his highs and lows, but has remained an icon in the world of pop culture. This summer, he returns to the big screen and will have a corresponding comic event under the banner “Summer of Superman“. It’s great to see Supes getting the love. Thankfully, the current comic series is very worthy of that love. Launching in 2023 with a new #1 issue, Superman has been kicking ass with a solid story and great supporting cast. This week on Bloodbath, we take a look at the first five issues of the Superman series with the trade title of Supercorp.

Written by Joshua Williamson with artwork by Jamal Campbell, Supercorp gives the world of Superman a fresh coat of paint while keeping all the stuff you love about the original masterpiece. Clark Kent is still a mild-mannered reporter. Superman is still the Man of Steel. What’s different is that an incarcerated Lex Luthor has switched gears and has decided to aid the Man of Tomorrow in saving the world. He’s even left Kal-El his company, redubbing it Supercorp. But it’s not just a fun enemies-to-teamates dynamic that makes this book stand out. There’s also Lex’s secret history as a vigilante, Lois’s position as the new Editor at the Planet, and Jimmy Olsen’s new girlfriend. There’s a lot going on in these first five issues.

Join Andrew and Petula as they dissect this first story arc from the current Superman tale. Is Supercorp a great setup for today’s chronicles of the Man of Tomorrow? Find out what we think on the latest Back Issue Bloodbath. Enjoy.

Have an idea for a certain topic we should cover? Have an indie comic book you’d like us to review? Send us an email at [email protected] with “Back Issue Bloodbath” in the subject line. We’d love to hear from you.
