We've had the call to adventure, which was represented by Angel and Giles, and then the refusal of the call, which is pretty much all of season one. And then there's several other steps that Buffy has undergone at various times, but season six was the refusal of the return, how Buffy's death and the gift represented the achievement of her quest up until then, and she felt she was finished, that she didn't need to return. So this season is Buffy getting what is called the ultimate boon and then finally the freedom to live if we're following the hero's journey. […]
