Becoming Unshaken is a space for real stories and raw healing. I talk about life after a toxic marriage, what it’s like co-parenting with a narcissist, navigating identity as a Black woman, and finding calm after chaos. It’s honest, sometimes heavy, sometimes light, but always grounded in growth.
When I was in high school, I had a plan. By 25, I’d be married, have kids, and be building the happy little life I always imagined.
Because wasn’t that what we were taught? Go to school, get a job, get married, have children, take care of your parents, and eventually your children do the same.
Simple enough, right?
Except nobody really prepares you for everything in between.
Nobody talks enough about what happens when marriages don’t work out, when careers take unexpected turns, when the village you’re supposed to have isn’t there, or when the person you were at 25 is nothing like the person you’ve become in your forties.
In this episode, I’m reflecting on the expectations we grow up with, the importance of communication in relationships, the uncomfortable conversations we aren’t always taught how to have, and what it feels like to reach a certain age and realize life looks nothing like you imagined.
Because sometimes I really do think I should be further along by now. And sometimes I’m just fucking disappointed.
But I’m also starting to question who decided where I was supposed to be in the first place.

Six Months Can Change a Lot
Six months ago, I wouldn’t have expected to be where I am today. I’m still navigating unemployment, financial stress, and all the everyday shit that comes with life. But somewhere in those six months, a few things have changed.
My relationship ended, I’ve stopped feeling the need to explain myself to everyone, and I’ve discovered just how much I enjoy being single. I’m writing more honestly, embracing my natural hair, making time for friendships, and figuring out what taking care of myself actually looks like.
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Some days are still fucking hard. But there are also parts of my life I’m genuinely enjoying, even when my bank account has other opinions.
This episode is a little catch-up on the last six months. The good, the frustrating, the unexpected, and everything I’m still figuring out.
Stay rooted. Stay unshaken. 💚

I Can’t Make Him Be Their Father
What happens when you realize you’ve been doing more than your share of the parenting, including helping the other parent parent?
In this episode, I’m talking about how co-parenting slowly became parallel parenting for me, the things I eventually stopped taking responsibility for, and what it’s like now that my children’s father has decided to move to another country.
I can’t manage his relationship with our children. I can’t make different choices for him. And as my kids get older, I’m realizing there are some things I can’t protect them from or fix for them either.
That’s probably the hardest part.
Stay rooted. Stay unshaken. 💚

Some Chapters Don’t Need Another Conversation
What happens when a relationship ends, but the questions don’t?
In the first episode of Season 2, I’m talking about the conversations we keep having long after a relationship is over. The things we still want explained, the future we thought we were building, the parts we replay, and the answers we may never get.
I’m also sitting with a question I haven’t completely answered yet: if I got all of those answers tomorrow, what would they actually change?
Maybe closure isn’t always one final conversation. Maybe sometimes you still have questions, you just stop needing the other person to answer them.
Welcome to Season 2 of Becoming Unshaken.
Stay rooted. Stay unshaken. 💚

Season 2 of Becoming Unshaken about life in the middle. Motherhood, relationships, friendship, work, identity, letting go, starting again, and trying to build something new without pretending I already know where it’s going.
I’m not coming back because I suddenly have everything figured out.
I’m coming back because I don’t.
Not on the other side. Right here. In it.
